<italic>meta</italic>-Direct arylation of <italic>O</italic>-β-naphthyl carbamate with aryl boronic acids has been accomplished unprecedentedly in an <italic>ortho</italic>-carbometallation/<italic>meta</italic>-direct mechanism.
Palladium-catalyzed C-H direct arylation generally occurs on the ortho-position of directing groups. By comparing meta-arylated products 2-naphthyl urea to ortho-arylated phenyl urea, ortho- and meta-regioselectivity aryl ureas were found depend aromaticity corresponding substituents. Thus, is a new factor which can affect regioselectivity in arylation. The finding was further confirmed by regioselective indole pyrrole derivatives.

A series of novel chiral 1‐benzoyl‐2‐(α‐N‐substituted aminoethyl)benzimidazoles are synthesized with the improved method in high yields (72–84%) and developed as nonenzymatic acylating agents for kinetic resolution racemic α‐amino esters. The process exhibits enantioselectivity (ee up to 94%) esters under mild reaction conditions.
Abstract Several novel chiral bifunctional L‐thiazoline‐thiourea derivatives were easily synthesized from commercially available L‐cysteine in high yield. These catalysts subsequently applied to the enantioselective Michael addition of acetylacetone β ‐nitrostyrenes. The products with S configuration obtained 98% enantiomeric excess ( ee ) when used.
