The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii is a causative agent of toxoplasmosis, an important and widespread zoonotic disease. transmission this disease in humans includes ingestion sporulated oocysts present contaminated water or food. T. are widely distributed toxoplasmosis considered major food- waterborne pathogen worldwide, making drinking containing source contamination for people. In the first half 2018, unprecedented outbreak was reported city Santa Maria, southern Brazil. temporal spatial...
Neosporosis is an infectious disease caused by the parasite Neospora caninum. Knowledge regarding neosporosis in goats still quite limited, especially state of Santa Catarina (SC), southern Brazil. Therefore, this study aimed to assess seroprevalence and risk factors for N. caninum western mountain regions SC. Blood samples were collected from 654 57 municipalities. The indirect immunofluorescence test was used antibody detection against Thirty (4.58%) seropositive, with titers ranging 1:50...
Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan that has great genetic diversity and prevalent worldwide. In 2018, an outbreak of toxoplasmosis occurred in Santa Maria, Brazil, which was considered the largest ever described world. This paper describes isolation molecular characterization from placenta two pregnant women with acute who had live births were receiving treatment for during outbreak. For this, placental tissue samples patients underwent by mice bioassay, conventional PCR genotyping using...
Neospora spp. is a intracellular protozoan phylogenetically closely related to Toxoplasma gondii and Sarcocystis neurona, it can infect horses leading the development of reproductive or neurological diseases. We determined presence antibodies sp. in mares at their parturition time determine frequency vertical transmission healthy foals verify importance transplacental transmission. The samples were analyzed by indirect immunofluorescence antibody test, showing that seroprevalence higher than...
ABSTRACT: The present study performed a genetic identification of pestiviruses contaminating batches fetal bovine serum (FBS) produced in Brazil from 2006 to 2014. Seventy-three FBS lots were screened by RT-PCR targeting the 5’untranslated region (UTR) pestivirus genome. Thirty-nine (53.4%) positive for RNA and one contained infectious virus. Nucleotide sequencing phylogenetic analysis 5’UTR revealed 34 (46.6%) containing viral diarrhea virus type 1 (BVDV-1), being 23 BVDV-1a (5’ UTR...
Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are two intracellular apicomplexan protozoa with worldwide distribution, responsible for reproductive disorders in sheep cattle. These may infect a wide variety of domestic wild animals, including birds, backyard chickens can be used as sentinels their infection. Parasites investigation useful the evaluation environmental contamination oocysts, disease cycle, risk factors associated public health. The aim this study was establish importance T. N. hosts....
Since November 2007 until May 2009, 1,778 serum samples of cattle from dairy herds the Southwest Parana State, Brazil, were used for search anti-Neospora caninum antibodies. The frequency seropositive animals, assessed by IFAT, was 24.2% (431/1,178), showing a relatively high occurrence in studied population. These results show that Neospora is widely distributed State. presence herd worrisome, since this protozoan closely related with reproductive disorders and low milk production cattle.
ABSTRACT The adipose tissue is a reliable source of Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) showing higher plasticity and transdifferentiation potential into multilineage cells. In the present study, tissue-derived mesenchymal (AT-MSCs) were isolated from mice omentum epididymis fat depots. AT-MSCs initially compared based on cell surface markers mesodermal trilineage differentiation potential. Additionally, AT-MSCs, both sources, cultured with media containing retinoic acid (RA) and/or testicular...
ABSTRACT: Reproductive tests in cattle are of great economic importance, given the impact it can have on production system and may be caused by agents. Neospora caninum Bovine Viral Diarrhea virus (BVDV) considered importance as reproductive should responsible for keeping animals persistently infected. The present study included 479 calf serum samples export state Rio Grande do Sul (RS). All were screened BVDV an ELISA antigen. antigen-positive isolated from cell culture. An indirect...
The aim of this study was to examine the intra-uterine exposure Sarcocystis spp. antigens, determining number foals with detectable concentrations antibodies against these agents in serum, before colostrum ingestion and collect data about horses parasite. Serum samples were collected from 195 thoroughbred mares their newborns two farms southern Brazil. Parasite specific antibody responses antigens detected using indirect immunofluorescent test (IFAT) immunoblot analysis. In 84.1% (159/189)...
ABSTRACT Free-range chickens may ingest oocysts of T. gondii present in the environment and consequently harbor virulent strains this parasite different tissues, without any clinical signs. Isolation through bioassays on mice cats from naturally infected chicken tissues has been described several countries, demonstrating importance free-range transmission parasite. The aim study was genotypic characterization isolates obtained a rural area state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Brain heart tissue...
ABSTRACT: Molecular detection of Eimeria species in fecal samples can be useful for experimental and diagnostic purposes. However, the parasite quantity presence feces oocyst wall are an obstacle DNA extraction protocols. Therefore, adequate sampling effective disruption oocysts essential to improve accuracy by PCR. The aims this study were evaluate suitability six protocols from spp. present bovine sheep. Twenty pools cattle (10 pools) sheep distributed protocols: commercial kit, kit with...
