The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, dynamics supernova bursts that produced heavy elements necessary for life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at forefront particle physics astrophysics are key to understanding evolution our its current state eventual fate. Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed plan a world-class experiment dedicated addressing questions. LBNE is conceived around three central...

High energy hadron colliders have been instrumental to discoveries in particle physics at the frontier and their role as discovery machines will remain unchallenged for foreseeable future. The full exploitation of LHC is now highest priority collider program. This includes high luminosity project which made possible by a successful technology-readiness program Nb3Sn superconductor magnet engineering based on long-term high-field R&D programs. These programs open path towards collisions with...

In 2021, new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus appeared with increased transmissibility and virulence as compared original wild variant. The first concern (VoCs), Alpha (B1.1.7) Gamma (P.1), in United Kingdom Brazil, respectively. Delta (B.1.617.2) variant, seen India October 2020, dominated COVID-19 infections across all regions through second half 2021.This research explores degree to which VoCs generate waves fluctuations case-fatality rates (CFRs) countries several regions, increase risk...

Elettra 2.0 will be a fourth generation storage ring light source replacing the existing synchrotron. This article illustrates design strategies, physical investigations and technical choices to meet multiple sometimes conflicting requirements. These include make fully transversely coherent up 0.5 keV-photon energy, diversify type of experiments through very broad range photon energies, from infrared hard x-rays, maximize number beamlines in excess 2-times machine periodicity, able produce...

Recent years have seen great strides in the development of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) laser-produced plasma sources. Field deployed EUV exposure tools are now capable facilitating advanced technology node development. Nevertheless, as required manufacturing dose scales, sources must follow suit and provide 500- 1000 W to maintain production throughputs. A free-electron laser (FEL) offers a cost effective, single-source alternative for powering an entire lithography program. FEL integration...

A heavy-ion beam propagating through a vacuum reactor vessel suffers phase-space distortion caused by anharmonic self-forces. If the remains uncorrected, an enlarged focal spot results. Analytic predictions of increase in root-mean-square emittance and focal-spot size are presented shown to agree with computer simulation. The resulting constraints on fusion-system design discussed, together possible means relaxing these constraints.

Since the first recognition of pandemic characteristics SARS-CoV-2 infection, and before substantial case fatality data were available worldwide, public health agencies warned about increased dangers to persons with a variety underlying physical conditions, many which are more commonly found in over 50 years age or certain ethnic groups. To investigate statistical rather than physiological basis support abovementioned warnings, this study examines correlations globally on nation-by-nation...
