A returned traveller from Asia presented with prolonged fever, abdominal pain, and eosinophilia. Abdominal CT revealed hypodense lesions of the liver. Fascioliasis was clinically suspected. Serology triclabendazole are unavailable in Israel; therefore, empiric treatment nitazoxanide transfer to Denmark for definitive serodiagnosis necessary.

Cryptosporidium is a parasite that causes watery diarrhea among both children and adults. However, because many physicians do not routinely ask for diagnostic test, cryptosporidiosis prevalence likely underestimated. The current study investigated the of admitted to hospital with gastrointestinal symptoms. Stool sample was collected from each child subjected routine microbiological culture. presence tested by three different methods: real-time PCR (RT-PCR), quick antigen, microscopic...

Abstract Background Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) are recommended as first-line treatment against uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum infection. Mutations in the PfKelch13 (PF3D7_1343700) gene led to resistance artemisinin Southeast Asia. Pfcoronin (PF3D7_1251200) confer reduced susceptibility vitro an African strain, but their role clinical has not been established. Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study of Israeli travellers returning from sub-Saharan...

We report seven cases of false-positive Plasmodium falciparum histidine-rich protein 2 (PfHRP2) malaria assay results in patients with acute schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma mekongi. PfHRP2 assays were negative travelers infected mansoni or haematobium (n = 13). Malaria was ruled out and rheumatoid factor all patients.

In human papillomavirus (HPV)-infected cells, the p53 tumor suppressor is tightly regulated by HPV-E6–E6AP complex, which promotes it for proteasomal degradation. We previously demonstrated that c-Abl tyrosine kinase protects from complex-mediated ubiquitination and degradation under stress conditions. However, underlying mechanism was not defined. this study, we explored possibility targets E6AP thereby p53. interacts with phosphorylates E6AP. determined E3 ligase activity of impaired in...

Travel-related schistosomiasis is usually associated with prolonged freshwater exposure. Until recently, Uganda's crater lakes were considered free due to their high-altitude location. We describe an outbreak of acute after a brief exposure (mean, 22 ± 9.5 minutes) lake.

Cryptosporidium is a protozoan parasite associated with gastrointestinal illness. In immune-compromised individuals, the infection may become life-threatening. Cryptosporidiosis mandatory-reported disease but little was known about its prevalence and morbidity in Israel. Currently, laboratory diagnosis based on microscopy or copro-antigen tests underreported. Molecular assays, which are more sensitive specific, now increasingly used for identification screening. Here, molecular epidemiology...

Little is known about Plasmodium malariae, a relatively rare cause of malaria in returned travelers. Recently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) use for diagnosis has enhanced specificity P. malariae detection. All PCR-proven monoinfections Israeli travelers between January 2008 2017 were retrieved from Ministry Health Reference Parasitology Laboratory. Data regarding method...

We describe a patient with Strongyloides stercoralis hyperinfection associated Streptococcus pyogenes and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. To the best of our knowledge this association has not been previously described. A 78 year-old Israeli man, who was born in Iraq but lived Israel for 66 years, presented multi-organ failure including acute kidney hepatic injury, coagulopathy, lactic acidosis. He had medical history aortic valve replacement, diabetes mellitus, spinal stenosis, low back...

A 65-year-old Israeli working in Welkait, Ethiopia, not using malaria prophylaxis, developed fever. Malaria rapid detection test was consistent with non-falciparum (plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase+/histidine-rich protein− [LDH+/HRP−]) but microscopy showed typical Plasmodium falciparum. HRP2/3 were negative by polymerase chain reaction. The patient suffered two recrudescence episodes following artemether–lumefantrine and atovaquone–proguanil treatments, responded to mefloquine treatment.
