<h3>Background</h3> Accurate optical characterisation and removal of small adenomas (&lt;10 mm) at colonoscopy would allow hyperplastic polyps to be left in situ surveillance intervals determined without the need for histopathology. Although accurate specialist practice performance narrow band imaging (NBI), routine clinical is poorly understood. <h3>Methods</h3> NBI-assisted diagnosis was compared with reference standard histopathological findings a prospective, blinded study, which...

Objective To compare the frequency and outcome of upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage (UGH) patients who had undergone cardiac surgery with a control group vascular patients. Patients or from January 1999 to December 2000 were identified departmental records. The inclusion criteria used haematemesis and/or melaena in post-operative period. Results Only 20 2274 (0.9%) operations complicated by UGH compared eight 708 (1.1%) operations. Among those UGH, 90% 43% taking aspirin, warfarin both....

Aspergillus japonicus isolated from the paper nest of Ropalidia marginata was screened for its extracellular lipase production. Maximum activity (120 U/ml) achieved by manipulating culture environment. The optimum pH 7.5 and temperature 40°C. Sucrose served as best carbon source whereas peptone nitrogen An animal fat, pig fat in medium enhanced These investigations will be helpful further scaling-up processes this industrial enzyme. Owing to many applications high-value syntheses bulk...

Twenty four fungal species were isolated from the paper nests of common Indian wasp Ropalidia marginata . The genus Aspergillus was dominant while Penicillium recorded next in nests. Among spp., A. niger most abundant (14%), followed by flavus (7%). P. citrinum occurred high (9%) oxalicum (2%). nest material analysed GC-MS revealed that it predominantly wax and components mainly hydrocarbons.

Anti–N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is uncommon cause of immune mediated encephalopathy in children. It usually manifests as psychosis, seizures and dyskinesia. We describe an unusual association with the phenotype this disease. An 11 year-old girl presented psycho-behavioral disturbances, headache, fever episodic disorientation few weeks after upper respiratory tract infection. Her MRI showed communicating hydrocephalus. She was found to have positive anti-NMDAR...

<h3>Introduction</h3> Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) is a common and heterogeneous condition. We have previously reported on prognostic scoring system devised from the Aberdeen cohort recently another has been published (The Oakland score) but requires validation.1 Both systems report ability to identify low risk of rebleeding mortality at 30 days. This study aimed compare two scores particularly with respect identifying those who may be eligible for safe discharge point...

<h3>Introduction</h3> The incidence of ischaemic colitis has risen from 6.1 cases/100 000 person-years in 1976-80 to 22.9/100 2005-09 (<i>Trotter JM, Hunt L, Peter MB. Ischaemic colitis. Abstract Background Chronic ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory condition associated with a pro-neoplastic drive, predisposing to colorectal cancer. Repeated colonoscopy undertaken detect preneoplastic change, but cancer diagnosis still frequently missed. Aims To determine if predetermined panel of methylation markers could better risk stratify patients, aiding earlier detection neoplasia. Methods ENDCaP-C ( https://doi.org/10.1186/ISRCTN81826545 ) was prospective multicentre test accuracy...

Background Chronic ulcerative colitis is a large bowel inflammatory condition associated with increased colorectal cancer risk over time, resulting in 1000 colectomies per year the UK. Despite intensive colonoscopic surveillance, 50% of cases progress to invasive before detection. Detecting early (precancer) molecular changes by analysing biopsies from routine colonoscopy should increase neoplasia Objectives To establish deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) marker panel neoplastic patients. develop...
