This study evaluates the use of biochar as a sustainable substitute to peat in soilless cultivation rocket salad (Eruca vesicaria (L.) Cav.). Biochar was added peat-based substrate at concentrations 0% (control), 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 70% v/v assess its effects on seed germination, plant growth, mineral content, nitrate accumulation. The results show that up 40% maintained germination rates above 80%, similar control, while higher (70% v/v) drastically reduced 29% entirely compromised...
Crop protection strategies based on cupric products and mainly adopted in organic viticulture produce a consistent environmental impact due to the persistence of copper soils its negative effects edaphic biodiversity. In this work, trials were carried out during crop years 2018–2020 vineyard with an management by low-copper strategy conventional IPM reduced use fungicides. Phytosanitary treatments have been strictly planned according forecasting models, fungicides partially substituted...
This study provided a detailed profiling of the antioxidant and bioactive compounds occurring in three varieties Rubus idaeus L. fruits (“Fall Gold”, “Glen Ample” “Tulameen”) compared to occidentalis black raspberry (“Jewel” cultivar), adopting comprehensive untargeted metabolomics approach developed with UHPLC analysis coupled quadrupole/time-of-flight high resolution mass spectrometry, using SWATH® acquisition protocol. The feature selection annotation workflow, applied extracts both...
Forestry-waste biochar was tested as a commercial substrate (peat:lapillus 1:1 v/v) amendment in growing tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Substrates were 0% (control), 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40% (% biochar-enriched characterized for their textural physicochemical properties. After harvesting, tomato production (i.e., plant fruits), quality (e.g., nutrition nutraceutics), safety biochar-related pollutants) assessed according to the different media. 10-to-40% substrates only exceeded pH...
Sucrose, glucose, fructose, citric, malic, ascorbic (AA) and dehydroascorbic (DHAA) acids, total polyphenols (TP), radical scavenging activity (RSA), physicochemical sensorial properties were determined on F. vesca Alpine (ALP) Regina delle Valli (RDV) berries in relation to plant age fertilisation treatment (Effective Microorganism Technology, EMT vs. traditional fertilization, TFT). ALP had a sum of AA DHAA about 20% lower TPs 30% higher than RDV. Plant affected most parameters, sugars...
Yield and quality of wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) cultivars ‘Regina delle Valli’ ‘Alpine’ cultivated in soil, as the traditional production system, soilless (both open air protected environments), an innovative sustainable were investigated a marginal inner area Pistoiese Apennine Mountains during two seasons. An earlier marketable was obtained culture, but total yield higher from plants grown open-field environment. Fruits system larger, developed some mildew, had visual defects,...
BACKGROUND:Vaccinium myrtillus L. is a valuable wild fruit species of conservation concern in the Tuscan Apennines (Italy). OBJECTIVE:The development micropropagation protocol for this vitro-banks year-round mass production specific selected superio r bilberry genotypes, maintaining genetic variability natural populations, avoiding erosion. METHODS:Nodal segments from seedlings were cultured on mMS medium with zeatin or 2iP multiplication and elongation stage, afterwards shoots rooting vitro...
Peaches are climacteric and highly perishable fruits, with a short shelf life, prone to rapid deterioration after harvest. In this study, the chemical proprieties, aroma profile sensory evaluation were conducted to: (1) characterize compare fruits of 13 different peach nectarine cultivars, harvested at physiological maturation; (2) assess suitability these that successfully used in long food supply chains (LFSCs), for their use (SFSCs). Through statistical analysis clear differences found...
The aim of this research was to assess the quality attributes fruits wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca) “Regina delle Valli” plants cultivated in pots remediated-sediment-based growing media (GM). For purpose, phytoremediated and landfarmed dredged sediment from Leghorn Harbor (Italy) mixed into a peat-based commercial substrate at different volume/volume percentages (0, 50 100%), were grown under greenhouse conditions with two water regimes (WR1 = 950 cc/day; WR2 530 cc/day). fruit parameters...
Plant protection strategies in organic viticulture are based on the application of copper products, which is well known to generate a consistent environmental impact due accumulation soils and its negative effects edaphic biodiversity. Life Green Grapes demonstrative project aiming improve sustainability throughout supply chain: from vine nursery table. In this paper, we report main results obtained over three growing seasons (2018-2020) response adoption strategy reduced use products an...
Two uniferous strawberry cultivars, ‘Marmolada®Onebor’ and ‘Elsanta’, were tested in three experimental fields located at 1,200 m asl; phenological phases fruit quality of first second season crops compared. Harvesting time the year crop occurred 40 days later than crop. Cultivar significantly affected skin brightness chroma index, flesh firmness, titratable acidity yield crop; field location exerted a significant effect also on weight diameter, but not total acidity. Fruit was higher crop,...
BACKGROUND: There is no mention in the literature of vegetative propagation Vaccinium myrtillus. OBJECTIVE: The aim study was to evaluate rooting potential bilberry rhizome and stem cuttings. METHODS: Rhizome cuttings collected early Autumn were dipped different IBA solutions (0 – 2000 4000 mgL–1) rooted non-sterilized V. myrtillus soil expanded perlite under controlled growth chamber environment or mist with basal heating a greenhouse for 12 weeks. RESULTS: showed high plant regulator (PGR)...
