In the last decade, illness perceptions have been identified as important in treatment of fibromyalgia (FM). The aim present study was to examine and use revised Illness Perception Questionnaire patients with FM (IPQ-R-FM) their relationship quality life catastrophizing.A domain specific causal attributions related added IPQ-R-FM. psychometric properties IPQ-R-FM dimensions attribution scales were examined. domain, which describe most perceived causes for FM, analyzed. In patients who experience unilateral chronic pain, abnormal sensory perception at the non-painful side has been reported. Contralateral changes in these have given little attention, possibly because they are regarded as clinically irrelevant. Still, bilateral could become relevant if challenge correct identification of their dysfunction terms hyperalgesia and allodynia. Therefore, we used standardized quantitative testing (QST) protocol German Research Network on Neuropathic Pain (DFNS) to...

Objective. The aim of this study was to calculate the incidence and prevalence radiating low back pain, explore long-term clinical course pain including influence radiculopathy (in a subsample population) non-radiating thereon, describe general practitioners' (GPs') treatment strategies for pain. Design. A historic prospective cohort study. Setting. Dutch practice. Subjects. Patients over 18 years age with first episode registered by ICPC code L86. Main outcome measures. Incidence...

The African continent has the greatest burden of surgical disability-adjusted life years, yet least is known about operative care here. This analysis describes patients admitted to 7 hospitals supported by Médécins Sans Frontières (MSF) over 3 years in conflict-affected countries-Eastern Democratic Republic Congo, Central Republic, and South Sudan.A standardized data collection tool was used for routine inpatient between 2011 2013 at MSF facilities. Surgical records 14,482 were analyzed...

Patients with chronic pain and severe disuse syndrome have physiological, psychological social adaptations. The duration severity of complaints, combined previously failed treatments, makes them unsuitable for treatment in primary care.A prospective waiting list controlled study.A total 32 patients at least one year were included an inpatient multidisciplinary cognitive behavioural treatment.Patients assessed before the period, clinical phase, after phase follow-ups 6 months year. visual...

When patients cannot indicate pain, physiological parameters may be useful. We tested whether heart rate variability (HRV) parameters, as reflection of sympathetic and vagal tone, can used to quantify pain intensity.Prospective study.A standardized heat stimulus was applied the forearm in 75 healthy volunteers during three study periods 2 minutes. Before after each application, intensity measured by a visual analog scale (VAS) inter beat interval (IBI) recorded. Standard deviation normal...

Allodynia is a common and disabling symptom in many patients with neuropathic pain. Whereas quantification of pain mostly depends on subjective reports, allodynia can also be measured objectively quantitative sensory testing. In this pilot study, we investigated the clinical relevance testing Von Frey monofilaments as consequence syndrome, by means correlating scores thresholds obtained testing.During 4-week trial, administered cannabis extract to 17 allodynia. We quantified severity before,...

The ‘complex neural pulse’TM (CNP) is a neuromodulation protocol employing weak pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF). A pioneering paper reported an analgesic effect in healthy humans after 30 minutes of CNP-stimulation using three nested whole head coils. Due to the lack of a specific diagnostic tool for neuropathic pain, grading system categorize pain as ‘definite’, ‘probable’, ‘possible’ and ‘unlikely’ was proposed. Somatosensory abnormalities are common in it has been suggested that greater number would be present patients with ‘probable’ ‘definite’ grades. To test this hypothesis, we investigated presence somatosensory by means Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) clinical diagnosis correlated sensory profiles different Of who were...
