Exposure to high ambient temperatures near the time of delivery has been associated with adverse birth outcomes, but studies examining impact on immediate newborn health remain limited. We used a time-stratified case-crossover design combined distributed lag nonlinear model evaluate short-term effects heat (0-1 day lag) low 5-minute APGAR score (≤7; sub-categories: 6-7, 3-5, 0-2). Cases among low-risk births (n=34,980) in São Paulo state (274 municipalities), 2013-2019, were extracted from...

Using serum and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid collected from 20 healthy adults (23-37 years, 55 % female) in the United States, we measured immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG, neutralising activity against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) influenza A (H1N1) virus. RSV-binding IgA IgG measurements were positively correlated with those BAL. For virus, BAL antibodies correlated, whereas did not show a significant correlation. RSV-specific (H1N1)-specific correlate between samples. These results...

Background Approximately 1.2 billion doses of novel type 2 oral polio vaccine (nOPV2) have been administered in response to circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV2) outbreaks since 2021. Although infants are eligible receive the from birth, induction intestinal mucosal immunity by nOPV2 newborns has not directly evaluated. Methods In a randomized, placebo-controlled, phase clinical trial Bangladesh (2020-2021), 215 healthy received two either (n=110) or placebo (sucrose; n=105), at...

Most emerging pathogens are zoonoses and have a wildlife origin. Anthropization disruption of ecosystems favor the crossing inter-species barriers. We hypothesize that marginalized population undocumented goldminers in Amazon is at risk acquiring zoonoses.

To better understand the declining rates of routine childhood vaccination in Brazil, we investigated association between measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) first dose vaccine coverage deprivation at municipality level. Using routinely collected data from 5565 Brazilian municipalities 2006 to 2020, municipality-level MMR (i.e., as a continuous variable percentage attaining 95% target coverage) relation quintiles deprivation, measured by Deprivation Index (Índice Brasileiro de Privação, IBP),...

Abstract Background Although polioviruses (PVs) replicate in lymphoid tissue of both the pharynx and ileum, research on polio vaccine–induced mucosal immunity has predominantly focused intestinal neutralizing binding antibody levels measured stool. Methods To investigate extent to which routine immunization with intramuscularly injected inactivated vaccine (IPV) may induce nasal pharyngeal immunity, we PV type-specific neutralization immunoglobulin (Ig) G, IgA, IgM secretions, adenoid cell...
