Context Life-history theory attempts to explain the way in which an organism is adapted its environment as well explaining differences life-history strategies among and within species. Aims The aim of this paper was compare traits Norway rat house mouse living different habitats geographic regions so find patterns related environmental characteristics on basis published ecological studies conducted before 2011. Methods environments where rodent populations lived were characterised according...
Abstract Small rodent communities and their distribution among habitats (sheds, perimeters interphases) were seasonally sampled over 2 years on 30 poultry farms. Interphases present when sheds close to (in 16 of farms). The exotic Mus musculus four sylvan species: Calomys laucha, Akodon azarae, Oligoryzomys flavescens musculinus captured. was more abundant in A. azarae interphases perimeters. other species did not differ habitats. abundance vary through the year, whereas greater autumn –...
Summary In this study, we identified hantavirus genotypes and their reservoirs evaluated the spatial temporal distribution of virus in rodent population three protected areas Argentina over 3 years (2007–2010). A total 837 rodents were captured with an effort 22 117 trap‐nights. We detected genotype Lechiguanas Oligoryzomys nigripes O. flavescens Pergamino Akodon azarae . There was no correlation between seroprevalence trap success host. The proportion seropositive males significantly higher...
Abstract The aims of this research were: 1) to determine the helminth parasite fauna seventy two Rattus norvegicus (Berkenhout, 1769) individuals inhabiting poultry farms in Pampean region Argentina; 2) examine relationship between parasitism and individual characteristics hosts, 3) analyze associations among helminths. study was carried out twenty-four from autumn 2000 winter 2001. Nematodes were found intestine or caecum rectum 74 % rats cestodes along all 28 rats. Heterakis spumosa...
Abstract BACKGROUND: Rodents are major pests in many agricultural systems, where they can cause significant economic losses and involve a sanitary risk. The application of anticoagulant rodenticides for rodent control has showed decrease effectiveness through time because the development resistant populations aversion behaviour. goal present study was to test susceptibility bromadiolone existence resistance Mus musculus L. (house mouse) Argentina. We conducted feeding with wild animals...
Abstract Life history characteristics are influenced by both biotic and abiotic factors of the environment. The aim this study was to compare life strategies
Abstract 1. Seasonal variations in rodent infestations were studied at poultry farms central Argentina as well the environmental factors associated with farms. 2. During summer and winter of 1998 infestation was monitored 10 by means tracking stations, 21 variables selected that a priori could be related extent infestation. 3. There higher than summer. 4. Species detected sightings included Akodon azarae, Calomys spp. (C. laucha possibly C. musculinus) Mus musculus. 5. In summer, positively...
We captured 3 hantavirus rodent hosts in Otamendi Natural Reserve, Argentina, during 2007-2012. Hantavirus antibodies were found only Akodon azarae grass mice, mainly males and old animals. Higher abundance of this species was associated with warm rainy weather high water levels, which peaked after a strong El Niño event.
We studied hantavirus seroprevalence and virus variability in rodent populations Diego Gaynor, northwest of Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Rodent samplings were conducted railroads cropfield borders March July 1999, September December 2000, 2001. Antibody detection was performed by an enzyme link immunosorbent assay (ELISA), using the recombinant nucleoprotein Andes (AND) as antigen. Tissue samples taken from positive antibody individuals order to confirm presence genomic material...
We have studied the prevalence of Trichinella spiralis, Leptospira spp. and Salmonella in rats opossums that inhabit poultry farms Exaltación de la Cruz, Buenos Aires, Argentina, to determine potential sanitary risk for humans are contact with these animals. The study was carried out on 48 between spring 1999 winter 2001. began 2000. During period we captured 152 Rattus norvegicus, 3 rattus, 16 Didelphis albiventris 1 Lutreolina crassicaudata. registered presence 70% 27% farms, respectively....
Habitat use of rodents is associated to environmental variables, species requirements and biological interactions. The aim this study was analyse the macro microhabitat spatial variation in abundance small sylvan that inhabit Otamendi Natural Reserve, Argentina. We studied rodent communities six habitats: riparian forest, Celtis tala lowland grassland, salt marsh two highland grasslands. captured a total 153 individual Scapteromys aquaticus Thomas 1920, Akodon azarae Fischer 1829,...
Abstract Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is an emerging infectious disease caused by viruses of the genus Orthohantavirus . The rodent Oligoryzomys flavescens distributed along four countries South America. In Argentina, O. acts as a reservoir three genotypes ANDV orthohantavirus. aims this work were to estimate home range size and movements—with spool‐and‐line radiotelemetry—of infected non‐infected in order understand spread transmission virus. use wide area satisfice its requirements,...
Abstract Urbanization promotes habitat degradation because it involves irreversible processes that homogenize habitats and favor the exclusion of native species. This research evaluates rodent community structure at different levels urbanization in Misiones, Argentina. We expect communities are less diverse more highly urbanized areas differ between each level urbanization. To assess these hypotheses, capture sessions were carried out from July 2017 to March 2020, totaling 21,985...
Heterakis spumosa and Syphacia muris are among the most common species parasitizing mammals. Although these nematodes have been reported from many hosts on several continents, in South America, they only recovered cecum of Rattus norvegicus Brazil Peru. This study provides morphological details H. S. muris. Moreover, this is first record Argentina. were collected specimens R. Partido de Exaltación la Cruz, Buenos Aires Province, note presents relevant features observed with scanning electron...
The aim of this study was to assess the reproductive biology and parasitology Didelphis albiventris in an agroecosystem landscape under hunting pressure. carried out monthly from February 2004 January 2005 Exaltación de la Cruz, Buenos Aires, Argentina. A total 179 individuals pouch young age class VI were captured by manual extraction during study. There two distinct events breeding season, which lasted mid-August end February. Females produced litters per with a mean litter size 8.75. In...
Shrub encroachment in grasslands is a worldwide problem that has many ecological consequences, transforming previously open environments into dense forests. Disruption of natural fire regimes one the main causes shrub encroachment, and use prescribed common strategy used to restore these ecosystems. In this study, we provide information about how palm tree savanna under process responds reintroduction fire. We describe effects first event on vegetation composition structure using an...
