Abstract This paper estimates 50-year trends in the intergenerational persistence of educational attainment for a sample 42 nations around globe. Large regional differences are documented, with Latin America displaying highest correlations, and Nordic countries lowest. We also demonstrate that global average correlation between parent child's schooling has held steady at about 0.4 past fifty years.

Hepatitis C is associated with more deaths in the United States than 60 other infectious diseases reported to CDC combined. Despite curative hepatitis virus (HCV) therapies and known preventive measures interrupt transmission, new HCV infections have increased recent years (1,2). Injection drug use primary risk factor for (2). One potential strategy decrease prevalence of create strengthen public health laws policies aimed specifically at reducing transmission risks among persons who inject...

A key capability of morally competent robots is to reject or question potentially immoral human commands. However, robot rejections inappropriate commands must be phrased with great care and tact. Previous research has shown that failure calibrate the "face threat" in a robot's command rejection severity norm violation can lead humans perceive as inappropriately harsh needlessly decrease likeability. it well-established gender plays significant role determining linguistic politeness norms...

Abstract Most cases of early‐onset torsion dystonia are caused by deletion GAG in the coding region DYT1 gene encoding torsinA. This autosomal dominant neurologic disorder is characterized abnormal movements, believed to originate from neuronal dysfunction basal ganglia human brain. The torsins (torsinA and torsinB) members “ATPases associated with a variety cellular activities” (AAA + ) superfamily proteins that mediate chaperone other functions involved conformational modeling proteins,...

Antigen-based rapid diagnostics tests (Ag-RDTs) are useful tools for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) detection. However, misleading demonstrations of the Abbott Panbio disease 2019 (COVID-19) Ag-RDT on social media claimed that SARS-CoV-2 antigen could be detected in municipal water and food products. To offer a scientific rebuttal to pandemic misinformation disinformation, this study explored impact using assay with conditions falling outside manufacturer...

Separation of clathrin-coated pits from the plasma membrane, a key event during endocytosis, is thought to be driven by dynamin and actin cytoskeleton. However, mechanism for actin-mediated endocytosis remains elusive. RNA interference-mediated suppression cortactin, an F-actin binding protein that promotes Arp2/3 complex-mediated polymerization, effectively blocked transferrin uptake. Depletion cortactin in brain cytosol inhibited formation vesicles 70% as analyzed cell-free system....

The WASP and cortactin families constitute two distinct classes of Arp2/3 modulators in mammalian cells. Physical functional interactions among the complex, VCA (a domain N-WASP), were examined under conditions that with or without actin polymerization. In absence actin, binds significantly weaker to complex than VCA. At concentrations 20-fold lower cortactin, association was nearly abolished. Analysis cells infected Shigella demonstrated N-WASP located at tip bacterium, whereas accumulated...
