Microquasars are binary star systems with relativistic radio-emitting jets. They potential sources of cosmic rays and can be used to elucidate the physics We report detection variable gamma-ray emission above 100 gigaelectron volts from microquasar LS I 61 + 303. Six orbital cycles were recorded. Several detections occur at a similar phase, which suggests that is periodic. The strongest not observed when two stars closest one another, implying strong modulation or absorption processes.

Recently, the Galactic center has been reported to be a source of very high energy (VHE) γ-rays by CANGAROO, VERITAS, and HESS experiments. The spectra as measured these experiments show substantial differences. In this Letter we present MAGIC observations center, resulting in detection differential γ-ray flux consistent with steady, hard-slope power law, described dNγ/(dA dt dE) = (2.9 ± 0.6) × 10-12(E/TeV)-2.2±0.2 cm-2 s-1 TeV-1. is centered at (R.A., decl.) This paper presents a bi-level model for distribution network and renewable energy expansion planning under demand response (DR) framework. The role of DR has recently attracted an increasing interest in power systems. However, previous models have not been completely adapted order to treat on equal footing. target the generation planner, modeled through upper-level problem, is minimize investment cost while meeting demand. problem constrained by lower-level stressing importance integrating...
Isolated regions and islands are facing imported fossil-fuel dependency, higher electricity prices, vulnerability to climate change. At the same time, they increasing their renewable penetration and, therefore, risk for electric utilities. Integrating stochastic energy resources in noninterconnected systems may take advantage of an intelligent optimized risk-averse unit commitment (UC) model. This paper presents a two-stage UC model with high including reserve requirements efficient...
Wind power represents a significant percentage of the Spanish generation mix and this trend will increase due to commitment European Union full deployment Directive 2009/28/EC. The increasing penetration intermittent renewable energy, development advanced information communication technologies, give rise questions on how additional flexibility obtained from loads can be used in order optimize use resources assets. This paper proposes comprehensive stochastic decision making model for...
The MAGIC telescope took data of very high energy gamma-ray emission from the blazar Markarian 421 (Mkn 421) between November 2004 and April 2005. We present a combined analysis samples recorded under different observational conditions, down to energies 100 GeV. flux was found vary 0.5 -- 2 Crab units (integrated above 200 GeV), considered low state when compared known data. Although varied on day-by-day basis, no short-term variability observed, although there is some indication that not...
The second part of this two-paper series analyzes the incorporation demand response (DR) and energy storage systems (ESSs) in joint distribution generation expansion planning for isolated system La Graciosa, Canary Islands, Spain. Based on stochastic programming model developed its companion paper, impact DR ESS location size new units assets to be installed, reinforced, or replaced are defined. Numerical results illustrate effective performance proposed approach. Additionally, a set metrics...
This paper presents a novel multi-stage stochastic distributed generation investment planning model for making decisions under uncertainty. The problem, formulated from coordinated system viewpoint, simultaneously minimizes the net present value of costs rated to losses, emission, operation, and maintenance, as well cost unserved energy. formulation is anchored on two-period horizon, each having multiple stages. first period short-term horizon in which robust are pursued face uncertainty;...
This paper proposes a trilateral bilevel stochastic mixed integer linear programming (MIBLP) model to handle joint master-slave operation-planning problem. considers the interactions among an integrated community energy system (ICES), prosumers, and wholesale electricity market (WM). The ICES, in upper level, makes optimal photovoltaic (PV) storage plan taking into account concurrent with WM prosumers maximize its profit. On other hand, lower aim at minimizing their bills via PV-package...
The MAGIC collaboration has studied the high-frequency-peaked BL Lac object 1ES 1218+30.4, at a redshift z = 0.182, using imaging air Cerenkov telescope located on Canary Island of La Palma. A gamma-ray signal was observed with 6.4 σ significance. differential energy spectrum for an threshold 120 GeV can be fitted by simple power law, yielding FE(E) (8.1 ± 2.1) × 10-7[E/(250 GeV)]-3.0±0.4 TeV-1 m-2 s-1. The high-frequency-peaked BL Lacertae object Markarian~180 (Mrk~180) was observed to have an optical outburst in 2006 March, triggering a Target of Opportunity observation with the MAGIC telescope. source for 12.4 hr and very high energy $γ$-ray emission detected significance 5.5 $σ$. An integral flux above 200 GeV $(2.3\pm0.7)\times10^{-11} {cm}^{-2} {s}^{-1}$ measured, corresponding 11% Crab Nebula flux. A rather soft spectrum photon index $-3.3\pm0.7$ has been determined.
