Highly porous nanocellulose aerogels can be prepared by vacuum freeze-drying from microfibrillated cellulose hydrogels. Here we show that functionalizing the native nanofibrils of aerogel with a hydrophobic but oleophilic coating, such as titanium dioxide, selectively oil-absorbing material capable floating on water is achieved. Because low density and ability to absorb nonpolar liquids oils up nearly all its initial volume, surface modified allow collect organic contaminants surface. The...

Hollow nano-objects have raised interest in applications such as sensing, encapsulation, and drug-release. Here we report on a new class of porous materials, namely inorganic nanotube aerogels that, unlike other aerogels, framework consisting hollow nanotubes. First show preparation method for titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, aluminum oxide based atomic layer deposition (ALD) biological nanofibrillar aerogel templates, that is, nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC), also called microfibrillated (MFC)...

Nature offers exciting examples for functional wetting properties based on superhydrophobicity, such as the self-cleaning surfaces plant leaves and trapped air immersed insect allowing underwater breathing. They inspire biomimetic approaches in science technology. Superhydrophobicity relies Cassie state where is within surface topography. Pressure can trigger an irreversible transition from to Wenzel with no air--this usually detrimental nonwetting functionality be avoided. Here we present a...

Mechanically excellent native cellulose nanofibers that are cleaved from plant cell walls have been modified by functionalized few-walled carbon nanotubes for hybrid nanofiber/nanotube aerogels. They show elastic mechanical behavior in combination with reversible electrical response under compression allowing responsive conductivity and pressure sensing. The concept combines wide availability of nanocellulosics functionality synergistically.

Graphene/cellulose nanocomposite paper with high mechanical and electrical performances was reported in this study by combining reduced graphene oxide sheets (RGO) amine-modified nanofibrillated cellulose (A-NFC) a well-controlled manner. By adjusting the GO content, various graphene/cellulose nanocomposites 0.1–10 wt% content of were obtained. The RGO/A-NFC synthesized developed method exhibits an percolation threshold 0.3 conductivity 4.79 × 10−4 S m−1, which is well above antistatic...

Surface wettability is usually evaluated by the contact angle between perimeter of a water drop and surface. However, this single measurement not enough for proper characterization, so-called advancing receding angles also need to be measured. Measuring can challenging, especially extremely hydrophobic surfaces. We demonstrate reliable procedure using common needle-in-the-sessile-drop method. Generally, line movement needs followed, true has distinguished from "pseudo-movement" occurring...

We studied sonographic findings and levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in 71 patients with a presumed ectopic pregnancy, recruited for conservative management, to find out whether these parameters may be useful monitoring treatment. Patients were selected on the basis decreasing hCG levels, minimal symptoms an adnexal mass, suggestive < or = 5 cm at transvaginal sonography.
