Abstract The consequences of sub-lethal levels ambient air pollution are underestimated for insects, example, the accumulation particulate matter on sensory receptors located their antennae may have detrimental effects to function. Here we show that density houseflies ( Musca domestica ) collected from an urban environment increases with severity pollution. A combination behavioural assays, electroantennograms and transcriptomic analysis provide consistent evidence a brief exposure...

Social insects use cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) to convey different social signals, including colony or nest identity. Despite extensive investigations, the exact source and identity of CHCs that act as nest-specific identification signals remain largely unknown. Perhaps this is because studies identify CHC typically organic solvents extract a single sample from entire animal, thereby analysing cocktail chemicals may serve several signal functions. We took novel approach by first...

We experimentally demonstrate a novel optical physical-layer network coding (PNC) scheme over time-division multiplexing (TDM) passive (PON). Full-duplex error-free communications between units (ONUs) at 2.5 Gb/s are shown for all-optical virtual private (VPN) applications. Compared to the conventional half-duplex set-up, our can increase capacity by 100% with power penalty smaller than 3 dB. Synchronization of two ONUs is not required proposed VPN

Abstract Antennae are among the most elaborate sensory organs in adult flies, and they provide rich information for phylogenic studies. The antennae of five out eight species Gasterophilus Leach ( G. haemorrhoidalis (Linnaeus), intestinalis (De Geer), nasalis nigricornis (Loew) pecorum (Fabricius)), were examined using scanning electron microscopy. general morphology, including distribution, type, size, ultrastructure antennal sensilla presented, definition auriculate pits updated clarified....
