Yellow-emitting carbon quantum dots, named Y-CQDs, were synthesized from O-phenylenediamine and ethylene glycol via a one-pot hydrothermal method. A fluorescent IMPLICATION logic gate for the continuous "on-off-on" detection of Au3+ biothiols in tap water at nanoscale level was constructed based on these QDs.
