Patients with severe coronary artery disease who undergo bypass grafting consistently demonstrate that continued smoking after surgery increases late mortality rates. Smoking may exert its harmful effects through the ongoing chronic process of atherosclerotic progression both in grafts and native system. However, it is not clear whether cardiac primary solely responsible for inferior survival current smokers.
Several of the most extensively used risk prediction tools for coronary artery bypass grafting outcomes include female sex as an independent factor postoperative outcomes. It is not clear whether this putative increased surgical impacts long-term survival. This study aimed to assess differences in 10-year all-cause mortality. Retrospective analysis 5340 consecutive patients undergoing primary isolated surgery, performed from 2000 2015, a Portuguese level III Hospital. The endpoint was...
As definitive data from randomized controlled trials comparing the effect on long-term survival of using single internal mammary artery (SIMA) or bilateral (BIMA) grafting are not yet available, observational studies allow for follow-up in large and representative populations, which might complement information potentially derived trials. To compare patients under 70 years age undergoing SIMA BIMA grafting.
A patient with previous CABG was hospitalized for fever and Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia without cardiac involvement. After appropriate antibiotic cycle, the recovered discharged. Six months later, symptoms relapsed. small intriguing 'cystic' mass visualized in right atrium by echocardiography. Once again, discharged after successful treatment. Four reappeared increasing size surgery decided. Intraoperatively, it perceived that related to an epicardial pacemaker wire. Retained wires...
The introduction of off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery intended to overcome some the conventional on-pump procedure limitations by avoiding potentially harmful adverse effects extracorporeal circulation and aortic cross-clamping. However, doubt remains on whether it is associated with worse long-term outcomes. To compare survival in patients multivessel ischemic heart disease undergoing versus grafting.Retrospective analysis 4788 consecutive primary isolated grafting surgery, performed...
Surgery provides the best chance for cure in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer stage I or II, but only a small portion of all new cases diagnosed are eventually suitable surgical resection. Our goal was to appraise outcomes including survival and progression rates patientswith histological diagnosis cancer.Between 1st August 2012 30th June 2018, that underwent resection curative intent at department Cardiothoracic Centro Hospitalar Univer- sitário de São João were included.The...
Abnormal distribution may put coronary arteries at risk of damage during valvular surgery, especially if it is not identified a preoperative examination. In this case report, we describe an approach to anomalous right artery aortic valve replacement.
During valvular surgery, abnormal coronary distribution, especially if unidentified by preoperative exams, may put arteries at risk of damage. In this case report, we describe the approach to an anomalous right artery during aortic valve replacement.
A 66-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital care in March 2021 due aggravating fatigue and dyspnoea. Her past medical history relevant for chronic anaemia, smoking, dyslipidaemia, antiphospholipid syndrome lupus-like mixed connective tissue disease, which she taking corticosteroids. She had suffered an acute coronary August 2020, complicated with postinfarction pericarditis; at the time, coronariography diagnosed moderate disease of anterior descending artery occlusion circumflex...
Abstract OBJECTIVES The aim of this sudy was to investigate the presence an obesity paradox on long-term mortality patients undergoing primary isolated coronary artery bypass surgery and uncover whether any discrepancy found could be attributable cardiovascular or noncardiovascular causes. METHODS Retrospective analysis 5242 consecutive with body mass index (BMI) over 18.5 kg/m2 surgery, performed from 2000 2015, in a Portuguese level III Hospital. end point all-cause mortality. Secondary...
To compare the independent and combined effects of anaemia red blood cell transfusion on late survival after isolated coronary artery bypass grafting.

Abstract A 43‐years‐old patient with hepatitis C and HIV co‐infection was referred to debridement of a left sternoclavicular septic arthritis. Due suspicion endocarditis, the underwent transthoracic echocardiogram which revealed an mass posterior atrium descending aorta. thoracic computed tomography esophageal varices. Transesophageal not performed. The has progressed favorably.
A 62-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital care due an ischaemic stroke and fever of unknown origin, 6 months after a transfemoral aortic valve implantation for symptomatic stenosis. Further study resulted in the diagnosis infective aortitis, clinical course deemed prosthesis explantation necessary. In this case report, we describe technique used explant partially endothelized review alternatives found literature safe removal.
This large atrial mass was removed from a 33-yearold patient admitted to the emergency department for severe venous congestion. Its hard texture, grayish discolouration and wall infiltration prompted radical excision partial reconstruction. Histopathology compatible with thrombus, discarding malignancy.
