A morbillivirus has been isolated and added to an increasing list of emerging viral diseases. This virus caused outbreak fatal respiratory disease in horses humans. Genetic analyses show it be only distantly related the classic morbilliviruses rinderpest, measles, canine distemper. When seen by electron microscopy, viruses had 10- 18-nanometer surface projections that gave them a "double-fringed" appearance. The induced syncytia developed endothelium blood vessels, particularly lungs.
Objective To describe the clinical and epidemiological features of an outbreak a viral infection affecting humans horses. Setting Stables in Hendra, suburb Brisbane. Subjects Affected horses humans, at-risk human contacts. Results: A pregnant mare died two days after arrival from paddock elsewhere Eight to 11 later, illness (depression, anorexia, fever, dyspnoea, ataxia, tachycardia, tachypnoea nasal discharge) was reported among 17 other same or adjoining stable. Fourteen were put down....
Digital proximity tracing apps were rolled out early in the COVID-19 pandemic many countries to complement conventional contact tracing. Empirical evidence about their benefits for response remains scarce. We evaluated effectiveness and usefulness of COVIDSafe, Australia's national smartphone-based app COVID-19.In this prospective study, done New South Wales (NSW), Australia, we included all individuals state who older than 12 years with confirmed, locally acquired SARS-CoV-2 infection...
The development of antibiotic resistance is one the biggest threats to global public health. Inappropriate use antibiotics recognised as a leading cause resistance. aim this study was explore knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) towards among adults in Nepal.A quantitative survey conducted with 220 community members Rupandehi district Nepal, cluster sampling techniques applied select households. Interviews were carried out face-to-face using structured questionnaire. Responses presented...
Abstract Objective: To determine the comparative virulence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive S (MSSA) by consideration predisposing factors outcomes in patients infected with these organisms healthcare setting. Design: Analysis an historical cohort 504 bacteremic (316 MSSA 188 MRSA), examining associated mortality. Setting: A 916-bed, university-affiliated, tertiary referral hospital. Results: Risk for development MRSA include male gender,...
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) establishes a lifelong infection that is efficiently controlled by the immune system; this can be reactivated in case of immunosuppression such as following solid organ transplantation. CMV viraemia has been associated with disease, well increased mortality and allograft failure. Prophylactic antiviral medication routinely given to renal transplant recipients, but reactivation during cessation prophylaxis known occur. The aims study were assess incidence, timing impact...
Abstract Introduction Some evidence suggests that knowledge and attitudes towards rational antibiotic use influences dispensing practice in community drug retail outlets. However, there is limited resource countries, including Ethiopia. We aimed to assess the surrounding or supply resistance, non-prescribed practices outlets non-urban Methods conducted a cross-sectional survey of outlet staff Amhara region, Ethiopia with focus on towns. An expert validated self-administered questionnaire was...
Abstract Determining the influence of climate change behind human mortality is interest to many sectors. However, it a fledgling field where studies have centered on northern hemisphere events. This study presents first attribution assessment burden an Australian heatwave change. We focus excess heatwave- (defined by climatological definitions) related in state Victoria that occurred during 2009 southeast heatwave. An epidemiological model derived from well-established methods defining...
Highly effective direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapies for hepatitis C (HCV) have been available in Australian prisons since 2016. To address treatment interruption following release from prisons, the Queensland Injector's Health Network (QuIHN) launched a Prison Transition Service (PTS) south-east Queensland, Australia. Presently, factors associated with continuity of post-release HCV care are poorly understood. The objective this qualitative study was to explore barriers and facilitators...
Energy policies have a major impact on the health and wellbeing of population. However, Australia’s energy rarely consider in their policies. In Australia many other countries, policies, while developed by governments, are heavily influenced commercial entities within fossil fuel industry. This means that policy does not reflect what climate science tells us is necessary for safe climate. environmental laws insufficient to protect both nature environment. Environment advocates been urging...
Abstract Introduction Antimicrobial resistance is a global public health crisis. A major driver of inappropriate antibiotic use, resulting from practices prescribers, dispensers and patients. The purpose this study was to identify the perception service providers policymakers about use antibiotics in Nepal. Methods qualitative conducted explore factors influencing use. Participants included 17 Rupandehi district Nepal, with semi‐structured interview schedule adopted. Data were analysed using...
Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 is implicated in the aetiology of anogenital dysplasia which may progress to malignancy. HPV-16 DNA actively transcribed cervical carcinomas, most abundant transcripts being from E6 and E7 early open reading frames. The protein has been shown have transforming activity vitro. In this report we define four immunodominant B epitopes within corresponding gene, using a panel murine monoclonal antibodies. Three are linear lie N-terminal region molecule, unique...
Objectives Private pharmacies are widely established in most low/middle-income countries (LMICs) including Nepal, and often considered as a patient’s first point of contact for seeking healthcare. The aim this study was to investigate the pattern antibiotic dispensing private through exit interviews with patients review their medication information. Design setting Cross-sectional study. Data collection carried out 60 days at 33 randomly selected Rupandehi district Nepal. Participants...
We aimed to identify risk factors for sporadic campylobacteriosis in Australia, and compare these Campylobacter jejuni coli infections. In a multi-jurisdictional case-control study, we recruited culture-confirmed cases of reported state territory health departments from February 2018 through October 2019. controls notified influenza the previous 12 months that were frequency matched by age group, sex, location. isolates confirmed species level public laboratories using molecular methods....
During the first two years of COVID-19 pandemic, Australia implemented a series international and interstate border restrictions. The state Queensland experienced limited transmission relied on lockdowns to stem any emerging outbreaks. However, early detection new outbreaks was difficult. In this paper, we describe wastewater surveillance program for SARS-CoV-2 in Queensland, Australia, report case studies which aimed assess potential provide warning community COVID-19. Both involved...
