Abstract The sequencing of the 12 genomes members genus Drosophila was taken as an opportunity to reevaluate genetic and physical maps for 11 species, in part aid mapping assembled scaffolds. Here, we present overview importance cytogenetic biology concepts chromosomal evolution. Physical markers were used anchor genome assembly scaffolds polytene each species. In addition, a computational approach smaller on basis analysis syntenic blocks. We map data from sequenced non-Drosophila...
The genus Rhinoleucophenga Hendel comprises 29 nominal species with New World distribution. In the present study five are redescribed: R. angustifrons Malogolowkin; lopesi matogrossensis nigrescens Malogolowkin and personata Malogolowkin. capixabensis Culik & Ventura is proposed as a new junior synonymy of lopesi. Other species, jacareacanga sp. nov., described from specimens deposited at CEIOC/Fiocruz. description review some former descriptions indispensable since distribution records doubtful.
In the last three decades some faunal surveys of Drosophilidae have been done in several environments Neotropical region, especially Brazil. But approximately 30 to 50% drosophilids Brazil not yet described, and degradation biomes causes a profound loss species diversity, as well information about present structureof their communities. This is situation with pampas biome, which covers southernmost Brazil, all Uruguay, central region eastern Argentina. For study, seasonal collections were...
There are 130 described species in the genus Mycodrosophila Oldenberg, 1914, distributed across all biogeographic regions. Most of these show essential mycophagy. Currently, ten known from Neotropical Region, nine which found Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Pampa biomes Brazil. In this study, we describe adult external morphology structures male and/or female terminalia for two new Amazon Biome addition, propose a group, neoprojectans encompassing here, together with three previously Neotropics.
The present study aims to characterise the assemblages of Drosophilidae sampled from four sites subject different levels urbanisation, in city Florianópolis, South Brazil. Five samples were collected between August 2000 and 2001 five 2002 2003 each site. A gradual change dominant species was observed urbanisation gradient, with an increase relative abundance exotic urban areas. Among native species, Drosophila capricorni Dobzhansky & Pavan had expressive decrease. In other hand richness low...
Population studies of invasive species allow us to understand how invaders react new biotic and abiotic conditions, native invasion. We evaluated the colonisation efficiency invader Zaprionus indianus (Gupta), in urban area Porto Alegre city, southern Brazil. Samples flies were taken from three parks, ecological indexes used based on frequency sampled species. The calculated for breeding feeding sites separately. highest frequencies Z. compared other drosophilids registered during seasons...
Drosophilid communities living in four different physiographical regions of the state Rio Grande do Sul (27°/34°S; 49.7°/57.5°W), Brazil, were analysed. Ignoring cosmopolitan species, this is about southern limit majority typically neotropical Drosophila species distribution. Numerical fluctuations most frequent populations from each place investigated relation to climatic data and trophic-resource availability. Of locations studied, Turvo remarkable for being an enormous ecological reserve...
Assemblages of drosophilids have been characterised in several environments the Brazilian territory, like Atlantic Rain Forest, urban areas, cerrados, Amazon and others. The present survey is first attempt to characterise fauna Drosophilidae mangrove forests, an environment typical tropical coasts worldwide. Twenty-eight samples were collected from three main forests Santa Catarina Island, southern Brazil, using banana-baited traps hung trees. Samples taken January (summer), April (autumn),...
A study of the community dynamics Drosophilidae was carried out in six insular communities and two others on mainland. Seasonal collections were throughout years Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil. The diversity index calculations show high values when compared with temperate climate communities. sites mainland (Serra do Tabuleiro) presented highest diversity, which measured by Diversity Index (H'). These are covered primary Atlantic Forest theoretically should have a higher variation...
This study presents a literature review of Drosophilidae (Diptera) species occurrence in Brazil. The number recorded is 304, with Drosophila being the genus greatest species, followed by Zygothrica, Hirtodrosophila and Diathoneura, which belong to Drosophilinae subfamily. was shown be most investigated taxon family, best resolved distribution. low records from other genera indicates paucity studies specifically designed investigate these species. Records for some regions country like north...
We present a phylogenetic hypothesis for 72 ,,Drosophila" species, constructed through analysis from the paralogous alpha methyldopa (amd) and dopa decarboxylase (ddc) nuclear genes (encompassing total of 2015 base pairs). Our data support subdivision paraphyletic subgenus into three main radiations (the immigrans-tripunctata, virilis-repleta Hawaiian Drosophilidae), each which is further subdivided to originate monophyletic 'sub-radiations'. Moreover, this study raises possibility that...
In an endeavor to contribute the comprehension of evolution transposable elements (TEs) in genome host species, we investigated phylogenetic relationships sequences homologous retrotransposon gypsy Drosophila melanogaster 19 species Drosophila, Scaptodrosophila latifasciaeformis, and Zaprionus indianus. This study was based on approximately 500 base pairs env gene. Our analyses showed considerable discrepancy between phylogeny relationship their they allow us infer a complex evolutionary...

Abstract Aiming to contribute the knowledge of evolutionary history Errantivirus , a phylogenetic analysis env gene sequences gypsy gtwin gypsy2 gypsy3 gypsy4 and gypsy6 was carried out in 33 Drosophilidae species. Most were obtained from silico searches Drosophila genomes. The complex pattern reported by other authors for retroelement also observed present study, including vertical transmission, ancestral polymorphism, stochastic loss horizontal transfer. Moreover, elements shown have...
The presence and integrity of the P transposon gypsy retrotransposon in genome 18 samples natural Drosophila willistoni populations collected from a large area South America were Southern blot screened using melanogaster probes. aim this screening was provide further knowledge-base on geographical distribution D. to carry out an inter-population analysis elements present genomes analyzed. fragment patterns obtained indicate that both are ancient genome, but whereas retroelement appears be...
Drosophila paulistorum Dobzhansky & Pavan, 1949 had initially been considered absent in anthropogenically disturbed environments, but 1985 the detection of species Porto Alegre city, southern Brazil, suggested its potential to colonize new habitats and laid foundations for ecologic studies on this species' populations. This study followed variations D. populations town almost 20 years after first local record. Drosophilid specimens were collected sites with different urbanization grades...
This study investigates the Drosophilidae species associated to fruiting bodies of fungi in forested and anthropized environments Atlantic Rain Forest Biome, south southeastern Brazil. We collected samples imagoes flying over emerging from five families, six collection sites. obtained 18 samples, which emerged 910 drosophilids 31 genera Drosophila Fallen, 1823, Hirtodrosophila Duda, 1923, Leucophenga Mik, 1886, Mycodrosophila Oldenberg, 1914, Scaptomyza Hardy, 1849, Zaprionus Coquillett,...
The present work aims at knowing the faunal composition of drosophilids in forest areas southern Brazil. Besides, estimation species richness for this fauna is briefly discussed. sampling were carried out three well-preserved Atlantic Rain Forest State Santa Catarina. In study, 136,931 specimens captured and 96.6% them identified specific level. observed (153 species) largest that has been registered inventories conducted Sixty-three did not fit to available descriptions, we believe most are...
