Abstract Equations of state for n -hexadecane (C 16 H 34 ) and -docosane 22 46 have been developed as functions the Helmholtz energy with independent variables temperature density. The equations were based on experimental values density, speed sound, isobaric heat capacity, vapor pressure. With these equations, all thermodynamic properties can be calculated. For -hexadecane, uncertainty in pressure is 0.5 %. saturated liquid density 0.05 % from triple point up to 400 K, 0.2 at higher...

Salinity is an essential quantity to calculate many of the physical properties oceans, but it also a hard define considering complexity this material in its bio-geo-chemical composition and imperfections existing measurement techniques. The TEOS-10 gives several definitions notion absolute salinity, usable function study, they are based on concept constant elemental seawater, so that, if major inorganic components well known, real varies time space determination still challenge.

A novel kind of pycnometer was designed for liquid density measurements suitable to be used over wide ranges temperature and pressure. Two similar pycnometers have been manufactured tested with n-nonane 99.7 mol% in the range from 233 K 313 at pressure lower than 10 MPa. To validate procedure, experimental values an sample compared given literature by means En number.

Adaptive or active elements can alter their shape to remove aberrations shift focal points. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) material improves upon current mirror materials, such as Zerodur, in several ways: low stiffness-to-weight ratio, very hysteresis, and greater dynamic range of correction. In this paper, we present recent developments CFRP actuation, i.e., changing the mirror's an accurate repeatable fashion. Actuation methods are studied both theoretically, using finite element...

In this work, accurate density measurements of subcooled water (freshly double-distilled water) were performed along eight constant-mass curves in the temperature range (243 to 283) K and pressure (140 400) MPa, by a pseudo-isochoric method. The experimental apparatus mainly consisted high vessel, especially designed for experiment, known volume as function pressure, used perform T-p under study. was obtained measuring equilibrium at different temperatures, keeping mass constant. All terms...

Radiation effects are well know to cause significant degradation in polymer materials. Low earth orbit (LEO) radiation exposures ionization potentials that can undermine mechanical properties of polymers. In particular, small scale degradations carbon / composite mirrors used imaging applications. High specularity surface finish is required for optical and vulnerable thereby undermining the performance mirror environment. Experiments involving its on replicated carbon/polymer will be...

We report on the optical performance of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite (CFRP) mirrors after 1.49 years exposure onboard Materials International Space Station Experiment (MISSE 7). Mirror samples were placed MISSE 7A tray, outside ISS from October 2009 and retrieved September 2011. The environment was an extreme test, which is considered "worst case" for survivability imaging applications in low-earth orbit (LEO) results testing returned flight show degradation two mirror's...
