Digital capturing of memorable personal items is a key way to archive memories. Although current digitization methods (e.g., photos, videos, 3D scanning) can replicate the physical appearance an item, they often cannot preserve its real-world interactivity. We present Interactive Item (IDI), concept reconstructing both and, more importantly, interactivity item. first conducted formative study understand users' expectations IDI, identifying features, including geometry, interfaces, and...

Gestures performed accompanying the voice are essential for interaction to convey complementary semantics purposes such as wake-up state and input modality. In this paper, we investigated voice-accompanying hand-to-face (VAHF) gestures interaction. We targeted on because relate closely speech yield significant acoustic features (e.g., impeding propagation). conducted a user study explore design space of VAHF gestures, where first gathered candidate then applied structural analysis them in...

Spatial orientation is essential for people to effectively navigate and interact with the environment in everyday life. With age-related cognitive decline, providing VR locomotion techniques better spatial performance older adults becomes important. Such advancements not only make more accessible but also enable them reap potential health benefits of technology. Natural motion-based has been shown its effective enhancing younger users' navigation tasks that require orientation. However,...

Light-weight photopolymer Kagome lattice materials are manufactured based on the ideally suited 3D-printed technology. The compression properties and deformation pattern experimentally numerically investigated, exploring failure mechanism energy absorption characteristics of three cores variants. effects core-geometry variables behaviors analyzed. different dominated is respectively explored for core-variants. damage can be well verified by micro-defects observed. All suggest that...

Remote communication is essential for efficient collaboration among people at different locations. We present ConeSpeech, a virtual reality (VR) based multi-user remote technique, which enables users to selectively speak target listeners without distracting bystanders. With the user looks listener and only in cone-shaped area direction can hear speech. This manner alleviates disturbance avoids overhearing from surrounding irrelevant people. Three featured functions are supported, directional...

We present ShadowTouch, a novel sensing method to recognize the subtle hand-to-surface touch state for independent fingers based on optical auxiliary. ShadowTouch mounts forward-facing light source user's wrist construct shadows surface in front of when corresponding are close surface. With such an design, vertical movements near-surface magnified and turned shadow features cast surface, which recognizable computer vision algorithms. To efficiently each finger, we devised two-stage CNN-based...

Storytelling with family photos, as an important mode of reminiscence-based activities, can be instrumental in promoting intergenerational communication between grandparents and grandchildren by strengthening generation bonds shared values. Motivated challenges that existing technology approaches encountered for improving storytelling (e.g., the need to hold tablet, potential view detachment from physical world Virtual Reality (VR)), we sought find new ways using Augmented (AR) support...

We present CasualGaze, a novel eye-gaze-based target selection technique to support natural and casual eye-gaze input. Unlike existing solutions that require users keep the center on actively, CasualGaze allows glance at object complete simply. To understand gaze behavior, we studied spatial distribution of for different layouts user behavior in simulated real-world environment. Results revealed impacts parameters, speed randomness features gaze, special patterns "blurred areas". Based...

In this paper, we propose a QoS-aware resource allocation scheme for IEEE 802.16d fixed WiMAX system operating in TDD mode. It focuses on the performance enhancement of allocation. The proposed scheduling algorithm flexibly adjusts bandwidth among different traffics to try get best efficiency while considering fairness way. is revealed through simulation.

In the paper, we propose a dynamic hierarchical call admission control mechanism in IEEE 802.16d WiMAX system. The is built upon user nodes priorities and service classes priorities. And it uses bandwidth algorithm to maximize allocation efficiently at base station. this use average polling delay scheduling efficiency as performance measurements. Our simulation performed for comparisons of proposed CAC with conventional bandwidth-based CAC. results show that our guarantees smaller higher...

Call admission control (CAC) plays a critical role in the performance of IEEE 802.16 mesh networks. The standard does not specify any CAC mechanisms. In this paper, based on bandwidth estimation, we propose call scheme centralized scheduling mode. proposed function by using characteristic defined standard. Simulation results demonstrate that our mechanism can effectively enhance throughput all flows and decrease delay VBR (variable bit rate) traffic.
