The effects of dietary supplementation in pigs with plant extract (PE) from Lippia spp., titrated verbascoside (5mg/kg feed), weaning to slaughter (166days), on carcass characteristics, meat quality, collagen oxidative stability and sensory attributes Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle were examined. Ten per treatment at a live weight 109.5±1.4kg. No influence LD quality parameters characteristics observed. Dietary PE increased (P<0.001) α-tocopherol levels muscle. Raw pig fed showed lower lipid...

Genome-derived neisserial antigen 2132 (GNA2132) is a novel vaccine candidate that was identified during the Neisseria meningitidis group B strain MC58 genome-sequencing project. To assess potential of GNA2132, we prepared antisera from mice immunized with recombinant GNA2132 (gene NZ394/98). Anti-GNA2132 antibody bound to surface live bacteria all 7 capsular or C strains tested and elicited deposition human C3b on bacterial surface. However, infant-rat complement, anti-GNA2132 had no...

Genome-derived neisserial Ag (GNA) 1870 is a meningococcal vaccine candidate that can be subdivided into three variants based on amino acid sequence variability. Variant group 1 accounts for approximately 60% of disease-producing B isolates. The went unrecognized until its discovery by genome mining because it expressed in low copy number most strains. To investigate the relationship between Ab binding to GNA1870 and complement-mediated protective functions, we prepared panel four murine IgG...

We investigated conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation administered to heavy pigs, assessing carcass characteristics, meat quality, and sensory characteristics of dry-cured (Parma) ham. Thirty-six averaging 97 kg BW, were assigned randomly three feeding groups in which diets supplemented with either 0, 0.25, or 0.5% (as-fed basis) a CLA preparation containing 65% isomers. All pigs slaughtered at 172 BW. No (P > 0.05) differences observed dressing percentage, loin ham weight, pH color...

We studied the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on metabolic and immunologic variables in lactating sows piglets. Gestating (n = 16) were assigned to 1 2 weight- parity-matched groups supplemented with 0% (C) or 0.5% (T) a CLA preparation containing 50% isomers. Supplementation started late pregnancy continued throughout lactation. At weaning, 80 piglets, half from each group sows, (T). Thus, there four 20 piglets: C-C, C-T, T-T, T-C. Body weight number piglets per litter at birth...

Three hundred lambs were used in a growth trial to determine the effect of monensin at 5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm diet on feed efficiency. Average daily gain was not affected. Monensin decreased consumption by 2 18% improved efficiency 7 11% when compared controls. The energy metabolism also studied indirect respiration calorimetry. Energy losses feces, urine methane 10 Heat production increased slightly, but proportion dietary retained treatment. nitrogen retained.

Conjugated linoleic acid isomers may affect the onset and severity of several diseases, including tumors, atherogenesis, obesity. They also modulate immune response. However, little information regarding most advantageous duration CLA supplementation is available. The purpose this study was to determine whether length dietary a sow affects growth, components, metabolic hormonal factors in lactating sows piglets. Gestating were fed control (0%) 0.5% CLA-supplemented diet beginning 7 d before...

Phytogenic feed additives are used in animal feeding to improve livestock performance. The aim of this study was determine whether a dietary plant extract from Lippia citriodora, standardized for verbascoside, can modify various immunological, oxidative, and biochemical serum parameters weaned piglets. A total 144 piglets, half female barrows (7.99 ± 1.40 kg BW), were allocated three treatments with six replicates per treatment (pens 8 piglets each). Piglets supplemented the following levels...

Substantial epidemiological evidence indicates that a diet rich in polyphenols protects against developing type 2 diabetes. The phenylethanoid glycoside verbascoside/acteoside, widespread polyphenolic plant compound, has several biological properties including strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities. aim of this research was to test the possible effects verbascoside on pancreatic β-cells, target never tested before. Mouse human β-cells were incubated with (0.8–16...

This study focuses on characterising two seasoned products, violino and bresaola, derived from grass-fed Bergamasca sheep monitored with a GPS system. The evaluation includes both nutritional sensory aspects. Results reveal that products boast high protein content (approximately 40%) beneficial fatty acid profile, endorsing healthy n-6/n-3 ratio (2.2), along rumenic (92–184 mg/100 g) branched-chain acids (BCFAs) (237–621 g). highlights distinctive ovine characteristics in aroma flavour....
