Significance Statement Intestinal barrier dysfunction—a “leaky gut”—reportedly contributes to pathological processes in some diseases. In a mouse model, the authors induced diabetic kidney disease, leading impaired intestinal integrity and inflammation, with IL-17 upregulation. This allowed intestine-derived Klebsiella oxytoca elevated translocate circulation kidneys, then accelerate injury, especially knockout mice lacking mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS). Stimulation of...

Recent studies have revealed the connection between amino acid chirality and diseases. We previously reported that gut microbiota produces various d-amino acids in a murine acute kidney injury (AKI) model. Here, we further explored pathophysiological role of d-alanine (d-Ala) AKI. Levels d-Ala were evaluated AKI analyzed transcripts N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, receptor for d-Ala, tubular epithelial cells (TECs). The therapeutic effect was then assessed vivo vitro. Finally, plasma...

The effect of glucocorticoid hormones on the replication human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) was studied in embryonic lung (HEL) cells. Treatment cells with pharmacological concentrations adrenal glucocorticoids such as dexamethasone enhanced HCMV replication; treatment oestrogenic or androgenic did not do so. In dexamethasone-treated HEL there an approximately tenfold increase virus yield, eclipse period shortened by 1 day compared to control cultures. hormone also plaquing efficiency tenfold. As...

Summary The susceptibility of human central nervous system cell lines to cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and the fate infected cultures were studied. Significant amounts infectious progeny virus produced in 118MGC glioma IMR-32 neuroblastoma, but not KGC oligodendroglioma cells when with wild-type (HCMVwt) at an m.o.i. 10 p.f.u. per cell. Further passage resulted establishment a long-term persistent infection. This infection, designated 118MGC/Towne, continuously (HCMVpi) titres ranging from 102 105...

Abstract Fibroblast accumulation and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition are common critical steps for the progression of organ fibrosis, but precise molecular mechanisms remain to be fully investigated. We have previously demonstrated that lysophosphatidic acid contributes fibrosis through production connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) via actin cytoskeleton‐dependent signaling, myocardin‐related transcription family (MRTF) consisting MRTF‐A MRTF‐B‐serum response (SRF) pathway. In this...

A 78-year-old man with atherosclerosis was diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma by transfemoral angiography of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries (SMA). After surgery, a serum examination revealed progressive renal failure eosinophilia, leading to end-stage kidney disease, in addition active gastric ulcers pancreatitis. Cyanosis bilateral toes showed cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE) skin biopsy. Autopsy that CCE involved arterioles multiple organs, its distribution anatomically...

Electron microscopy observations of purified Bryan high-titer Rous sarcoma virus (BH RSV) using the freeze-drying technique showed that progeny made in absence a helper lacked visible surface projections or spikes. Phenotypic mixing experiments employing BH RSV and thermolabile mutant vesicular stomatitis virus, tl 17, yielded no evidence pseudotype formation. Since 17 is known to be defective for an envelope glycoprotein, lack successful phenotypic with consistent observed viral

A line of chick embryo cells (CEC) was obtained from CEC treated with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). The cells, designated CHCC-OU2, were contact-inhibited, formed no colony in soft agar and did not produce tumors when inoculated into syngeneic chickens. electron microscopic examination reverse transcriptase assay showed virus production the cells. Subgroup avian sarcoma (ASV) Newcastle disease replicated well this cell line.

The revision of International Society Nephrology/Renal Pathology (ISN/RPS) classification guidelines for lupus nephritis (LN) was suggested by a working group, who recommended modified National Institute Health (NIH) activity and chronicity scoring system to evaluate active chronic LN lesions. However, whether this approach useful estimating long-term prognosis patients is unclear. We conducted retrospective cohort study in Japanese subjects with biopsy-proven LN, between 1977 2018....

High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) RAGE ligand of damage-associated molecular patterns that elicits inflammatory reactions. shedded isoform and endogenous secretory (esRAGE), splice variant, are soluble isoforms (sRAGE) act as organ-protective decoys. However, the pathophysiologic roles RAGE/sRAGE in acute kidney injury (AKI) remain unclear. We found AKI was more severe,...

Abstract Background Recent studies revealed that lysophospholipids (LPLs) and related molecules, such as autotaxin (ATX) phosphatidylserine‐specific phospholipase A 1 (PS‐PLA ), are candidates for novel biomarkers in melanoma, glaucoma diabetic nephropathy. However, it is not clear whether serum levels of ATX/ PS‐PLA would be associated with pathological clinical findings lupus nephritis (LN). Summary Correlation between cytotoxin production and sporulation was demonstrated when a Clostridium difficile culture inoculated into fresh broth to give an initial count of < 10 vegetative cells/ml with no spores. Under these conditions, produced released during sporulation. Addition inhibitor (acridine orange, 30 mg/L), resulted in marked decrease both production, despite there being change the number cells culture. These results indicate that might be closely related production.

Dysbiosis increases uremic toxin level in intestine, and toxins transfer into blood, causing CKD progression.
