The compound 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is a potent monoamine releaser that produces an acute euphoria in most individuals. In double-blind, placebo-controlled, balanced-order study, MDMA was orally administered to 25 physically and mentally healthy individuals. Arterial spin labeling seed-based resting state functional connectivity (RSFC) were used produce spatial maps displaying changes cerebral blood flow (CBF) RSFC after administration. Participants underwent two arterial...

Aims There is some evidence that monitoring methadone plasma concentration may be of benefit in dosage adjustment during maintenance therapy for heroin (opiate) dependence. However, the kinetics oral are incompletely characterized. We attempted to describe latter using a population approach combining intensive 57 h sampling data from healthy subjects with less sparse 24 opiate users. Methods Single doses rac ‐methadone were given 13 drug‐naive (7 men and 6 women) 17 users beginning (13 4...

Despite the common use of MDMA (ecstasy) in UK, mechanism underlying associated potentially fatal cerebral oedema is unclear. We used a new experimental approach working directly with clubbers to perform study on 30 (17 male) experienced (mean 6.6 years clubbing). Pre and post-clubbing measurements were performed compare plasma levels pituitary hormones (vasopressin, oxytocin), urine osmolality, urinary pH, sodium urea. Ecstasy consumption was con.rmed by using drug screening preand...

We have developed a sensitive HPLC method for measuring methadone in plasma and used it to establish that there is linear relationship between concentration dose over the range of 3-100 mg per day group 31 addicts. found good correlation (r = 0.89), with increasing by 0.263 mg/L every milligram consumed kilogram body weight. Five patients had unexpected high or low concentrations; this finding discussed.

Introduction Little is known about the extent and patterns of cannabis use in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods MS patients attending neurology outpatient clinics at two hospitals London one Kent, UK completed a questionnaire. Results Questionnaires were by 254/337 (75%) patients. Forty-three per cent had used some stage (ever users). Of these, 68% (75/110) to alleviate symptoms (MS-related use). Forty-six (18%) last month (current users), whom 12% (31/254) it for symptom relief....

Aims Although methadone is widely used to treat opiate dependence, guidelines for its dosage are poorly defined. There increasing evidence suggest that a strategy based on plasma drug monitoring may be useful detect non‐compliance. Therefore, we have developed population‐based pharmacokinetic (POP‐PK) model characterises adaptive changes in kinetics. Methods Sparse rac‐methadone concentrations measured 35 opiate‐users were assessed using the P‐Pharm software. The final structural comprised...
