Multi-layer friction surfacing (MLFS) is a solid state layer deposition technology for metals. In order to make use of the potential MLFS as additive manufacturing, material properties built structures have be investigated and understood in detail. This study presents comprehensive analysis mechanical deposited from micro-flat tensile testing (MFTT) at elevated temperatures. The specimens obtained fine-grained show slightly higher strength room temperature but lower temperatures 300 °C above...
Due to the present shortage of 3He and associated tremendous increase its price, supply large neutron detection systems with becomes unaffordable. Alternative concepts, therefore, have been invented based on solid 10B converters. These concepts require development in thin film deposition technique regarding high adhesion, thickness uniformity chemical purity converter coating area substrates. We report sputter highly uniform large-area 10B4C coatings up 2 μm a deviation below 4% using...
Abstract Iron‐based catalysts for NH 3 decomposition have been studied by a combination of catalytic tests and in situ synchrotron diffraction experiments performed an inert sapphire plug‐flow cell. In contrast to steel‐based reaction cells, or quartz glass cells show no blind activity. Starting from iron oxide precursors, nitrides form during the activation cycle. Nitrides remain as main crystalline phases govern conversion subsequent cycles. this work structural compositional changes were...
We report on the first in situ synchrotron radiation powder X-ray diffraction study (SR-PXD) of ammonolysis reaction selected alkaline and earth metal hydrides (i.e., LiH, NaH, KH, MgH2, CaH2). The investigation was performed using an SR-PXD pressure cell at initial NH3 6.5 bar a range temperature between room (RT) 350 °C. results this work give new important insights into formation amides imides starting from corresponding hydrides. LiH observed to react with form LiNH2 already RT, then it...
In this work the effect of a partial replacement CaH2 with CaF2 on sorption properties system + MgB2 has been studied. The first five hydrogen absorption and four desorption reactions 3CaH2 4MgB2 systems were investigated by means volumetric measurements, high-pressure differential scanning calorimetric technique (HP-DSC), 11B 19F MAS NMR spectroscopy, in situ synchrotron radiation powder X-ray diffraction (SR-PXD). It was observed that already during mixing reactants formation...
X-ray mirrors are needed for beam shaping and monochromatization at advanced research light sources, instance, free-electron lasers synchrotron sources. Such consist of a substrate coating. The shape accuracy the layer precision coating crucial parameters that determine properties required various applications. In principal, selection materials determines mirror reflectivity. A single offers high reflectivity in range total external reflection, whereas is reduced considerably above critical...
Large X-ray mirrors are required for beam transport at both present-day and future free-electron lasers (FELs) synchrotron sources worldwide. The demand large with lengths up to 1 m single layers consisting of light or heavy elements has increased during the last few decades. Accordingly, surface finishing technology is now able produce substrate micro-roughness on sub-nanometer scale. At Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG), a 4.5 m-long sputtering facility enables us deposit desired...
We have investigated superconductor–normal metal–superconductor junctions with metallic perovskite SrRuO3 barriers. Ramp-type ion-beam-etched and wet-chemical-etched YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) ramps been compared planar where the interfaces were fabricated completely in situ. Regardless of fabrication method, junction properties determined not by barrier, but an insulating layer at interface. The shape I–V curves, temperature dependence normal resistance junctions, could be well explained...
There are several techniques providing quantitative elemental analysis, but very few capable of identifying both the concentration and chemical state elements. This study presents a systematic investigation properties X-rays emitted after atomic capture negatively charged muons. The probability rates muonic transitions possess sensitivity to electronic structure materials, thus making X-ray Emission Spectroscopy complementary Absorption for chemistry elements, able unparalleled analysis in...
The correlation between the morphology of ramps in YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-/spl delta// thin films prepared by ion-beam etching and properties ramp-type junctions was investigated detail. Ramp-type were fabricated using PrBa/sub 2.9/Ga/sub 0.1/O/sub as barrier material. We examined influence different fabrication parameters on ramp Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Properties junctions, which employing a post-baking mask, compared with those without any special treatment. Junctions...
Current and next-generation light sources, for instance third generation synchrotron FLASH the future project X-FEL require single-layer multilayer mirrors with an active optical length of more than one meter. At GKSS research centre, a new sputtering system deposition multilayers has been installed. This is able to manufacture maximum 1.5m. In this paper we are going present first results challenging system. The mirror properties investigated by means X-ray reflectometry, transmission...
X‐ray mirrors are needed for beam guidance, alignment and monochromatisation at third‐generation synchrotron light sources (PETRA III) forthcoming Free‐Electron Lasers (LCLS, European XFEL). Amorphous carbon coatings currently used as total reflection FLASH to guide the photon various beamlines. These were prepared by means of magnetron sputtering. The new GKSS sputtering facility deposition single multilayer with a length up 1500 mm width 120 is in operation. In this contribution we present...
Multi-layer friction surfacing (MLFS) is a layer deposition technique that allows building structures from metals in solid state. As approach for additive manufacturing, the re-heating during subsequent processes significantly lower compared to fusion-based techniques. Available research work presents promising properties of MLFS aluminum alloys, reporting no significant directional dependency terms tensile strength. The present study focuses on fatigue crack propagation behavior and role...
We measured the static error rate of a high-Tc superconductor dc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), which, in form as storage loop for single flux quanta, is basic element rapid circuits. Using multilayer bicrystal technology, we fabricated stacked SQUID pair, one serving loop, other readout device. The escape stored was function bias current at temperature 28 K. rates were good agreement with model calculation based on thermally activated barrier crossing.
