High fusion power experiments using DT mixtures in ELM-free H mode and optimized shear regimes JET are reported. A of 16.1 MW has been produced an at 4.2 MA/3.6 T. The transient value the amplification factor was 0.95±0.17, consistent with high nDT(0)τEdiaTi(0) = 8.7 × 1020±20% m-3 s keV, maintained for about half energy confinement time until excessive edge pressure gradients resulted discharge termination by MHD instabilities. ratio DD to powers (from separate but otherwise similar...
Abstract The JET edge plasma code EDGE2D/U is designed to simulate divertor configurations. We describe here the physical model and numerical techniques used.
Distributed architectures for industrial applications are a new opportunity to realize cost-effective, flexible, scalable and reliable systems. Direct interfacing of sensors actuators the communication network improves system performance, because process data diagnostics can be simultaneously available many systems also shared on Web. However, sensors, especially low-cost ones, cannot use standard protocols suitable computers PLCs. In fact, typically require cyclic, isochronous hard...
The characterization of three commercial thermoelectric modules, which are designed for cooling/heating applications, is presented to employ the devices power conversion, i.e., as generators (TEGs). theory briefly summarized at first, taking into account relationship between effective temperature difference across TEG junctions and applied externally, considering insulating ceramic plates having finite thermal conductance. modules have been characterized in terms open-circuit output voltage...
Artificial spin ice arrays of micromagnetic islands are a means engineering additional energy scales and frustration into magnetic materials. Here we demonstrate phase transition in an artificial square use the symmetry lattice to verify presence excitations far below ordering temperature. We do this by measuring temperature-dependent magnetization different principal directions comparing it with simulations idealized statistical mechanical models. Our results confirm dynamical pre-melting...
Results are presented of experiments carried out in JET with the Mark II divertor to study ELMy H modes at high density. In these effective ion mass plasma (pure hydrogen, deuterium and tritium), input power, current edge triangularity were varied. The variation density was achieved by gas fuelling. focus is on two main issues: global energy confinement scaling mode pedestal. It found that dependence ITER97-P(y) not confirmed experiment when limit approached. For regime a independent...
Non-local effects have recently been observed in many transient experiments different tokamaks. These modelled by introducing a non-local dependence the Bohm part of previously introduced model for L-mode, so that good simulations are obtained L - H transitions, cold pulses, sawteeth and ELMs. This also explains improvement core transport whole high-performance phase H-mode ELM-free discharges.
This paper presents a low-cost interface for high-value resistive sensors varying over wide range, from k/spl Omega/ to G/spl Omega/. The proposed circuit that acts as "resistance period converter" is suitable be interfaced microcontroller or counting device. behavior of real electronic components produce estimation errors, taken into account. Experimental results obtained by the realized prototype show good resolution and repeatability.
Piezoresistive properties of thick-film resistors obtained with ink series supplied by different manufacturers have been investigated as a function composition, structure, sheet resistivity, and applied strain between 0 ±1000 μ strain. The sensitivity appears to be strong the nature conductive grains resistivity paste; results suggest dominant role tunneling effect in conduction mechanism sensitivity.
An ultrasonic sensor operating in air was developed to measure distance (up 100 cm) or operate as a proximity presettable range. The error the measured is about ±1 mm while accuracy maintained within percent of reading whole temperature range from -20°C +110°C, being dependence sound velocity electronically compensated. As it can overcome most drawbacks and limitations inductive, capacitive, optical, Hall-effect commercial sensors.
This paper deals with the energy conversion via piezoelectric effect. A mechanoelectrical converter based on thick films of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) deposited a steel cantilever by low-temperature process is presented. Modeling and measurement results performances are reported, its potential use in self-powered autonomous sensor devices proposed
Two-dimensional condensed matter is realized in increasingly diverse forms that are accessible to experiment and of potential technological value. The properties these systems influenced by many length scales reflect both generic physics chemical detail. To unify their physical description therefore a complex important challenge. Here we investigate the distribution experimentally estimated critical exponents, β, characterize evolution order parameter through ordering transition. found be...
We investigate the magnetic properties of a range low-dimensional ferromagnets using combination first-principles calculations and atomistic spin dynamics simulations. This approach allows us to evaluate ground state finite temperature experimentally well characterized systems such as Co/Cu(111), Co/Cu(001), Fe/Cu(001) Fe/W(110), for different thicknesses layer. compare our calculated wave spectra with experimental data available in literature, find good quantitative agreement. also predict...
Atomistic spin dynamics simulations have evolved to become a powerful and versatile tool for simulating dynamic properties of magnetic materials. It has wide range applications, instance switching states in bulk nano-magnets, topological magnets, such as skyrmions vortices domain wall motion. In this review, after brief summary the existing investigation tools study magnons, we focus on calculations spin-wave excitations low-dimensional magnets effect relativistic temperature effects...
The piezoresistivity coefficients in p- and n-channel MOS transistors manufactured on silicon wafers cut parallel to the (111) (100) planes as a function of VD, VG temperature, between -20 120 degrees C, have been measured with particular aim investigating possible application for strain measurements, by comparing advantages disadvantages bulk diffused resistors. characteristics devices can be consistently better than corresponding ones semiconductor gauges, particularly regards temperature...
Fieldbus systems are well known in the industrial automation world. Due to increasing demand for scalability and capability of working harsh environment, use wireless communication is gaining importance. In past, some efforts were pursued encapsulate wired standards over link, but their diffusion limited by reliability predictability requirements. addition, event-driven protocols borrowed from consumer world (as IEEE802.11 or IEEE802.15.4) not suited applications. this paper, authors present...
Ethernet technology is widely used in real-time industrial automation. Thanks to (RTE) protocols, defined IEC61784-2 standard, new top-performance automation solutions can be created. Such systems may have communication cycle time down tens of mus and jitter less than 1 mus, making network testing debugging very critical. Existing protocol analyzers perform detailed local analysis, but characterization high-performance RTE requires measurement transmission delays these instruments cannot...
Distribution of precise time reference in an Ethernet network allows the implementation distributed measurement systems, overcoming limitations a complex architecture. Results of experiments investigating the performance JET Mark IIA divertor are reported and compared with its I predecessor. The principal effect reducing width (increasing closure) was to increase pumping for both deuterium impurities while upstream neutral pressure. Neither orientation target relative plasma nor had a major influence on core in ELMy H modes. Changing triangularity thus edge magnetic shear modifies ELM frequency mode plasmas, thereby changing peak power loading. integrated...
