Abstract Fine grained 8 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) transparent ceramics with high optical and mechanical properties were fabricated by air pre-sintering hot isostatic pressing (HIP) using commercial 8YSZ powders as the raw material. The pre-sintered fine grains appropriate relative density play a key role to achieve transparency suppressed grain size after HIP post-treatment at relatively low temperatures. With increase of temperature from 1350 1550 °C, in-line transmittance 600...

The major advantage of laser lighting over white light-emitting-diode is the possibility to achieve ultra-high luminance. However, phosphors usually suffer laser-induced luminescence saturation, which limits peak luminance devices. aim present study develop LuAG:Ce/Al2O3 composite ceramics (LACCs) with a high saturation threshold for high-luminance lighting. Owning rigid crystal structure, proper synthetic process, and optimized thermal design, LACCs possess small...

Composite YAG/Nd:YAG/YAG transparent ceramics for planar waveguide laser were fabricated by non-aqueous tape casting and solid-state reactive sintering. The slurry made from the oxide powder mixtures shows a shear thinning behavior. morphologies of tapes homogeneous in structure, had appropriate strength toughness. After calcining at 600°C 10h air, samples contained less than 0.05wt.% carbon. No gaps found between layers on fracture surface green body compacted cold isostatic pressing....

Ordered TiO2 nanowire arrays have been successfully fabricated into the nanochannels of a porous anodic alumina membrane by sol–gel electrophoretic deposition. After annealing at 500°C, and individual nanowires were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission (TEM), selected area diffraction (SAED) x-ray (XRD). SEM TEM images show that these are dense continuous with uniform diameter throughout their entire length. XRD SAED analysis together indicate crystallize in...

Abstract Transparent ceramics are at the heart of modern magneto-optical materials providing promising opportunities for Faraday isolators. 1.0 at% RE:Tb 3 Ga 5 O 12 (rare earth (RE) = Pr, Tm, Dy) transparent were successfully prepared by air sintering and sequential HIP technique using coprecipitated powders as raw material. All have shown to be a pure cubic terbium gallium garnet (TGG) phase exhibit good dispersion. Additionally, change could not observed in particle shape with different...

Abstract In this article, 5 at.% Yb:Lu 2 O 3 transparent ceramics were fabricated by vacuum sintering combined with hot isostatic pressing (HIP) posttreatment using co‐precipitated nano‐powders. The influence of precipitant molar ratio, ammonium hydrogen carbonate, to metal ions (AHC/M 3+ , R value) on the properties precursors and calcined powders was investigated systematically. It found that different value at 1100°C for 4 hours pure cubic Lu but morphologies behaved differently. opaque...

Alumina nanowire arrays standing on the surface of a porous anodic alumina membrane have been achieved by first forming with parallel Y-branched nanochannels reducing applied anodizing voltage factor in anodization process high-purity Al foil, and then chemically etching nanochannel an aqueous phosphoric acid solution. The novel nanostructures may be used for two-dimensional photonic bandgap structural materials.
