A prospective clinical study was performed to evaluate a new method of treatment endotoxin shock, column containing polystyrene fibers with covalently bound immobile polymyxin B. Direct hemoperfusion using the removes circulating by adsorption. All patients studied, 37 in group and 33 control group, had endotoxemia failure 1 or more organs. The perfusion 1–7 times per patient, 2 h/session. survival rate significantly higher (54%) than controls (36.4%). mean plasma concentration lowered from...

Tertiary amine was covalently bonded to a polystyrene fiber and examined for antibacterial activity. The tertiary (TAF) showed high antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli. TAF exhibited stronger gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella typhimurium, Serratia marcescens) than gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus Streptococcus faecalis) or Candida albicans. This E. coli accentuated by 0.1% deoxycholate 10 mg of actinomycin D per ml,...

Abstract The differences in affective status between patients who restrain their negative emotion and those express after being given breast cancer diagnosis were studied using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) at two sessions: (i) first visit to outpatient surgery clinic, (ii) immediately cancer. Eighty‐seven completed POMS Courtauld Emotional Control Scale (CECS) clinic Shiga University Medical Science Hospital. They also Breast ( n = 8) highly anxious, depressed confused compared 8)....

The plasminogen activation (PA) system may participate in cancer invasion and metastasis. A series of breast tissue specimens was analysed using situ hybridization immunohistochemistry. Urokinase-type activator (u-PA) mRNA detected cells fibroblasts adjacent to them its expression found be more intense invasive than intraductal regions. In but not regions, especially those with abundant stroma, inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) observed cells, fibroblasts, macrophages, endothelial PAI-2 present...

A Phase I clinical trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of endotoxin elimination by direct hemoperfusion using a cartridge containing chemically immobilized polymyxin B fibers (PMX-F). Thirty-seven endotoxemic patients with multiple organ failure (MOF) were treated. Direct for 2 h PMX-F column performed (PMX). PMX could remove circulating from severely patients. Plasma level significantly decreased between its inlet and outlet ( P < 0.01). The mean plasma concentration all n =...

Silkworm larvae plasma (SLP) reagent, which is prepared from the body fluid of silkworm, reacts with peptidoglycan (PG), a fragment both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial cell wall, as well beta-glucan, component fungi. We developed quantitative method for detection PG in human cases infection using SLP reagent. Tested this way, showed 86.2% sensitivity, 90.6% specificity, 89.3% positive predictive value, 88.5% efficiency. The provides valuable tool diagnosis systemic patients' blood.
