Spontaneous and reflex movements may be found in patients with brain death (BD). The authors prospectively evaluated their frequency using a standardized protocol. Among 38 who fulfilled criteria for BD, the 15 (39%) spontaneous or movements. most common movement was finger jerks. Undulating toe flexion sign, triple response, Lazarus pronation-extension reflex, facial myokymia also were seen. These more than reported do not preclude diagnosis of BD.
Background: The primary aim of this study was to assess drug treatment adherence in patients with bipolar disorder and identify factors associated adherence. secondary analyze the impact suboptimal on clinical functional outcomes. Healthcare (direct cost) non-healthcare (work productivity losses)...
Background: Therapeutic inertia (TI) in multiple sclerosis (MS) is defined as the lack of treatment escalation when there evidence disease activity. Limited information available on physician-related factors influencing TI MS. The aim study was to evaluate whether physicians' risk preferences are associated with management MS by applying concepts from behavioral economics. Methods: A neurologists managing patients conducted Spain. Participants answered questions regarding 20 case-scenarios...
In multiple sclerosis (MS), half of affected people are unemployed within 10 years diagnosis. The aim this study was to assess the economic impact MS in adult subjects with relapsing-remitting (RRMS) and primary progressive (PPMS).A multicenter, non-interventional, cross-sectional conducted. Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) 23-item Multiple Sclerosis Work Difficulties Questionnaire (MSWDQ-23) were used disability work performance, respectively. Only indirect costs considered using...
Background: Cognitive impairment has an impact upon the function and quality of life patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). High-serum neurofilament light-chain (sNfL) levels predict disease progression are also associated impaired cognitive performance. This study aimed to assess attitudes neurologists toward sNfL testing as regards making therapeutic decisions in clinically radiologically stable experiencing decline. Methods: A web-based observational was conducted among caring for MS. The...
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the primary reasons for increased mortality in patients with schizophrenia. The mechanisms involved its pathogenesis are not well understood. Objective: To estimate prevalence MetS adult outpatients schizophrenia according to presence or absence negative symptoms. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study using electronic medical records was conducted. Positive Negative Syndrome Scale negative-symptom factor (N1–N4, N6, G7, G16) used...
The management of multiple sclerosis (MS) is rapidly changing by the introduction new and more effective disease-modifying agents. importance risk stratification was confirmed results on disease progression predicted different score systems. Despite these advances, we know very little about medical decisions under uncertainty in MS. goal this study to i) identify whether overconfidence, tolerance risk/uncertainty, herding influence decisions, ii) evaluate frequency therapeutic inertia...
The impact of comorbidity on multiple sclerosis (MS) is a new area interest. Limited data the risk factors metabolic syndrome (MetS) currently available. aim this study was to estimate presence comorbid conditions and MetS in sample adult patients with MS. A retrospective, cohort conducted using electronic medical records from 19 primary care centres Catalonia Asturias, Spain. number chronic diseases (diagnoses), Charlson Comorbidity Index individual Case-mix were used assess general...
Fatigue in multiple sclerosis is a key symptom associated with work-related problems and poor quality of life outcomes. The simultaneous occurrence of intracerebral hemorrhages in different arterial territories is an uncommon clinical event. Its predisposing factors and pathophysiological mechanisms are not clearly defined. To analyze the frequency, risk factors, features, neuroimaging findings, outcome multiple (SIHs).We studied all patients with acute stroke admitted to our hospital from July 18, 1997, through December 1999. Multiple SIHs were defined as presence 2 or more affecting identical computed...
Assessment of pupillary diameter is useful for lesion location, a necessary step in diagnosing neurologic disorders.1,2 Recognition changes can serve as an early warning acute brain injury, and may, with prompt treatment, prevent further injury. However, not all are relevant, because size various physiologic or pharmacologic conditions.1 A few studies have evaluated the reliability nurses to assess pupils,3,4 but none physicians. Because, practice, physicians usually use their own...
