(1) Background: Drug repositioning is an unconventional drug discovery approach to explore new therapeutic benefits of existing drugs. Currently, it emerges as a rapid avenue alleviate the COVID-19 pandemic disease. (2) Methods: Herein, we tested antiviral activity anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory Food Administration (FDA)-approved drugs, commonly prescribed relieve respiratory symptoms, against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), viral causative agent pandemic....

Flavonoids are important secondary plant metabolites that have been studied for a long time their therapeutic potential in inflammatory diseases because of cytokine-modulatory effects. Five flavonoid aglycones were isolated and identified from the hydrolyzed aqueous methanol extracts Anastatica hierochuntica L., Citrus reticulata Blanco, Kickxia aegyptiaca (L.) Nabelek. They as taxifolin (1), pectolinarigenin (2), tangeretin (3), gardenin B (4), hispidulin (5). These structures elucidated...

Abstract During the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, symptoms of depression are commonly documented among both symptomatic and asymptomatic quarantined COVID-19 patients. Despite that many FDA-approved drugs have been showed anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity in vitro remarkable efficacy against clinical trials, no pharmaceutical products yet declared to be fully effective for treating COVID-19. Antidepressants comprise five major drug classes treatment depression, neuralgia,...

Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 at end 2019, 64 candidate vaccines are in clinical development and 173 pre-clinical phase. Five types currently approved for emergency use many countries (Inactivated, Sinopharm; Viral-vector, Astrazeneca, Gamaleya Research Institute; mRNA, Moderna, BioNTech/Pfizer). The main challenge this pandemic was availability to produce an effective vaccine be distributed world’s population a short time. Herein, we developed whole virus NRC-VACC-01 inactivated tested...

SARS CoV-2 is still considered a global health issue, and its threat keeps growing with the emergence of newly evolved strains. Despite success in developing some vaccines as protective measure, finding cost-effective treatments urgent. Accordingly, we screened number phenolic natural compounds for their vitro anti-SARS activity. We found sinapic acid (SA) selectively inhibited viral replication an half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value 2.69 µg/mL significantly low cytotoxicity...

We detected highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus in wild rats collected from a rural area Giza, Egypt, near poultry farms, markets, and backyard flocks. Sequence phylogenetic analyses indicated that the belonged to clade 2.3.4.4b, which has been predominant genotype circulating Egypt worldwide since 2021-2022. Active surveillance of viruses domestic mammals is recommended prevent further spread humans.

Reassortant highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N2) clade 2.3.4.4.b viruses were detected from ducks and environmental samples in Egypt, June 2024. Genomic phylogenetic analyses revealed a novel genotype produced by reassortment of an A(H5N1) 2.3.3.4b virus with A(H9N2) G1-like virus. Monitoring the spread this is important.

Unexpected mutations in SARS-CoV-2 produce unique variations. While numerous vaccines and antiviral medications are available for SARS-CoV-2, their use controlling preventing COVID-19 is restricted some areas countries due to accessibility cost issues. This study investigated polysaccharides produced from two brown seaweed (Padina boergesenii Sargassum euryphyllum) capacity inhibit SARS-CoV-2. The were characterized identified using ultraviolet visible (UV/VIS) Fourier transform infrared...

SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted in closed settings to people contact with COVID-19 patients such as healthcare workers and household contacts. However, person-to-person transmission studies are limited. Households participating an ongoing cohort study of influenza incidence prevalence rural Egypt were followed.
