Authors are often faced with the decision of whether to maximize traditional impact metrics or minimize costs when choosing where publish results their research. Many subscription-based journals now offer option paying an article processing charge (APC) make work open. Though such “hybrid” research more accessible readers, APCs come high price tags and can exclude authors who lack capacity pay accessible. Here, we tested if open access in a journal benefited by conferring citations relative...
Abstract Species geographic distribution and conservation priority areas are important bases for in situ biodiversity decision‐making. In view of the urgency endangered species protection, eight representative typical forest ecosystem Greater Lesser Khingan Mountains were studied. Based on 1127 occurrence points environmental data collected from 2016 to 2021, used BIOMOD2 Zonation reconstruct potential area identify ( Tetrao parvirostris , T. tetrix Gulo gulo Alces alces Martes zibellina...
Background Microplastics (MPs) has been rapidly increasing and interacting with wildlife. As the highest altitudes inhabited non-human primate, Yunnan snub-nosed monkey ( Rhinopithecus bieti ) have proven to be an umbrella flagship species indicate ecosystem changes help develop environmental management strategies. In this study, we aimed investigate behavioral ecological reasons for types, content differences of MPs in feces R. , explored effects on gut microbiome . Methods We used Agilent...
The activity budgets of primates reflect their survival strategy. Despite existing data on the Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus bieti), little is known about how vary between age-sex classes. This study provides first detailed subdivided by class, based observations largest habituated group R. bieti at Xiangguqing in Baimaxueshan Nature Reserve. was conducted from June 2008 to May 2009. We found that adult females spent more time feeding (44.8%) than males (39.5%), juveniles (39.1%)...
of environmental variables and organism occurrence records offers insight that can be used to predict potential distribution areas habitat fragmentation. For large landscapes, modeling is the most convenient effective way conduct research. Two species models, BIOMOD2 FRAGSTATS 4.2, were given data on as input suitable fragmentation for Yunnan snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus bieti). Our results estimated total area potentially R. bieti 7412.82 km2, but only 4164.58 km2 was found inhabited by...
Two previous studies on interspecific body size variation of anurans found that the key drivers are species' lifestyles and environments they live in. To examine whether those findings apply at intraspecific level, we conducted a study Asian common toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus), terrestrial anuran distributed in tropical regions. The toads from 15 locations, covering majority their geographic range, local environmental data were summarized published literature. We used model selection...
The appearance of tourists brings about behavioural changes in some primates. Primate responses to human activities can reflect their survival strategy. Little is known how the behaviour Rhinopithecus bieti presence tourists. Here we provide first detailed description interactions between a provisioned group R. and at Xiangguqing Baimaxueshan Nature Reserve from July 2012 June 2013. We found that had different response rates 5 most common actions (shout, photograph, offer food, clap, wave)....
Abstract Information on feeding habits and food choices of species living in heavily disturbed fragmented habitats is critical to developing conservation plans for these animals. We collected data the diet two groups (Groups 1 2) white-headed langurs (
Animal life activities are rhythmic and affected by seasonal periodicity. Based on 9 years of observations, we estimated the reproductive parameters a wild, but provisioned Yunnan snub-nosed monkey ( Rhinopithecus bieti ) group at Xiangguqing in Baimaxueshan National Nature Reserve, Province, China. We observed 84 infants (43 males 41 females) from females between 2010 2018. found birth sex ratio was 1:1, female age first 6.13 infant mortality about 15.5%. Nine data showed that maximum...
Abstract Ranging behavior and habitat utilization are important indicators of ecological influences on individual behavior. We collected data the ranging use two groups Assamese macaques (
Abstract Human activity is increasingly and persistently disturbing nature wild animals. Affected wildlife adopts multiple strategies to deal with different human influences. To explore the effect of on habitat utilization Himalayan marmot ( Marmota himalayana ), patterns three neighboring populations in habitats affected differently by activities were recorded compared. We found that (a) distance between reproductive burrows (a represent pairs) becomes shorter under influence activities,...
Natural disasters such as snow storms have far-reaching effects on variations in the habitat structure and ecological aspects of non-human primates. Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys ( Rhinopithecus bieti ) inhabit high-altitude forest endure harsh winters. The effect heavy snow-storms (January 19 to February 6, 2008) two large groups R. (Gehuaqing group Xiangguqing group) inhabiting Samage Forest Baimaxueshan Nature Reserve were assessed. Data damage collected between March May 2008 via field line...
Geophagy is common in extant nonhuman primate species, but the exact reasons for it across species remain unclear. Previous diet studies on Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus bieti) were only focused organic materials (plants and small animals). There are no reports R. bieti exhibiting geophagy field before this study. This study was carried out at Xiangguqing Baimaxueshan Nature Reserve from June 2008 to May 2009. We recorded behavior of collected samples soil consumed by there...
Abstract Sex-biased dispersal is common in group-living animals. Due to differences local demographic and environmental factors, sex-biased presents many irregular patterns. In this study, a habituated, individually identified Yunnan snub-nosed monkey Rhinopithecus bieti group was observed over 9 years; 192 events, including 97 male events (25 natal 72 secondary dispersal) 95 female (34 61 were observed. Males females showed different paths, ages, Females had 2 whereas males 4 paths. terms...
Canids are among the numerous taxonomic groups that have recently experienced significant population declines. The reconstruction of distribution range changes using long-term ecological data can reveal processes underlying spatial contractions short-term studies may not detect. We integrated niche modeling with records to estimate magnitude canid in Sichuan Province over last 50 years. Our findings indicate distributions underwent sharp between 1970 s and 2010 (contraction rates: gray wolf...
The white-lipped deer (Cervus albirostris) is a rare and endangered species found in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau China. To understand space occupancy, activity rhythm, sexual segregation of deer, 24,096 effective photos 827 videos were captured using infrared cameras from February 2020 to January 2022. ecology behavior Jiacha Gorge studied more detail site occupancy models, relative abundance index, other technologies methods. results show that predicted by model exceeds or approaches 0.5....
Abstract Authors are often faced with the decision of whether to maximize impact or minimize costs when publishing results their research. For example, potentially improve via increased accessibility, many subscription-based journals now offer option paying a fee publish open access (i.e., hybrid journals), but this solution excludes authors who lack capacity pay make research accessible. Here, we tested if in subscriptionbased journal benefited by conferring more citations relative closed...
Ecological factors are known to influence the activity budgets of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus bieti). However, little is about how vary between age/sex classes, because species difficult observe in wild. This study provides first detailed subdivided by classes based on observations largest habituated group at Xiangguqing Baimaxueshan Nature Reserve. was conducted from June 2008 May 2009. We found that adult females spent more time feeding (44.8%) than males (39.5%), juveniles...
The giant flying squirrel Petaurista petauri is a large rodent studied by few researchers. Here, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of P. petauri. Similar to typical vertebrate genome, mtDNA also contained 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA and 22 tRNA genes) noncoding region (D-loop). We analyzed phylogenetic relationship Petauri 14 other closely related species using Bayesian inference. This work will contribute our understanding this species’ evolution conservation.
