Thirty-four Acetobacter strains, representing aceti, pasteurianus, pomorum, peroxydans, lovaniensis, estunensis, orleanensis, indonesiensis and tropicalis, were subjected to a polyphasic study that included DNA-DNA hybridizations, DNA base ratio determinations, 16S rDNA sequence analysis phenotypic characterization. Two novel species are proposed, cerevisiae sp. nov. malorum The type strains of these respectively LMG 1625T (= DSM 14362T = NCIB 8894T ATCC 23765T) 1746T 14337T).
The aim of this study was to evaluate the use phenylalanyl-tRNA synthase alpha subunit (pheS) and RNA polymerase (rpoA) partial gene sequences for species identification members genus Lactobacillus. Two hundred one strains representing 98 17 subspecies were examined. pheS sequence analysis provided an interspecies gap, which in most cases exceeded 10 % divergence, intraspecies variation up 3 %. rpoA revealed a somewhat lower resolution, with gap normally exceeding 5 2 combined offers...
ABSTRACT The microbial composition of smear-ripened cheeses is not very clear. A total 194 bacterial isolates and 187 yeast from the surfaces four Irish farmhouse were identified at midpoint ripening using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), repetitive sequence-based PCR, 16S rRNA gene sequencing for identifying typing bacteria Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy mitochondrial DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (mtDNA RFLP) analysis yeast. microflora was uniform,...
A polyphasic taxonomic study of four strains Paenibacillus larvae and pulvifaciens (including duplicates both type strains) supported the reclassification former Bacillus species into one species, P. larvae. Our conclusions were based on morphological Analytab Products (API) tests, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) whole-cell proteins, gas chromatography methylated fatty acids, pyrolysis mass spectrometry, DNA-DNA binding, following genomic fingerprinting...
A polyphasic taxonomic study was performed on 23 strains isolated from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in the USA. These were tentatively identified as Burkholderia cepacia, vietnamiensis and or Ralstonia sp. using biochemical tests 16S rDNA-based PCR assays. Visual comparison of protein profiles indicated that they belonged to a single new group ('group 13'). The data showed 18 these represent member B. cepacia complex, referred this report genomovar VI, whereas other five multivorans. By...

Pantoea citrea, punctata and terrea were described for strains isolated from fruit soil originating in Japan. These three 'Japanese' species have been shown to be phylogenetically distant other of the genus Pantoea. It has observed previously that, using multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), consistently formed a distinct clade with an extended branch length, casting doubt on inclusion these within Furthermore, are closely related Tatumella ptyseos, which originate human clinical specimens....
This study analysed the usefulness of recA gene sequences as an alternative phylogenetic and/or identification marker for vibrios. The suggest that genus Vibrio is polyphyletic. high heterogeneity observed within vibrios was congruent with former polyphasic taxonomic studies on this group. Photobacterium species clustered together and apparently nested vibrios, while Grimontia hollisae apart from other Within cholerae mimicus members. harveyi - splendidus -related formed compact separated...
Seventy-seven strains representing 10 species in the Paenibacillus polymyxa 16S rRNA group and 3 other that exhibit phenetic relatedness to members of this group, Bacillus lautus, "Bacillus longisporus," peoriae, were characterized genotypically phenotypically by performing an amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis, a randomly polymorphic fatty acid methyl ester sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis whole-cell proteins, pyrolysis mass spectrometry, API routine...
Six new Vibrio -like isolates originating from different species of bleached and healthy corals around Magnetic Island (Australia) were investigated using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA, recA rpoA gene sequences split the in two groups. Strains LMG 22223 T , 22224, 22225, 22226 22227 phylogenetic neighbours Photobacterium leiognathi 4228 (95·6 % rRNA sequence similarity), whereas strain 22228 was related to Enterovibrio norvegicus 19839 (95·5 similarity). The...
Four marine heterotrophic, aerobic, pink-pigmented and non-motile bacterial strains were isolated from sea water algae collected in the Sea of Japan. In a polyphasic taxonomic study, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that phylogenetically highly related to Algoriphagus ratkowskyi LMG 21435T, member phylum Bacteroidetes. Further phenotypic, chemotaxonomic genomic analyses revealed represent three novel species genus Algoriphagus, for which following names are proposed: aquimarinus sp....
ABSTRACT The relatedness among 91 Enterococcus strains representing all validly described species was investigated by comparing a 1,102-bp fragment of atpA , the gene encoding alpha subunit ATP synthase. relationships observed were in agreement with phylogeny inferred from 16S rRNA sequence analysis. However, sequences much more discriminatory than for differentiation. All differentiated on basis with, at maximum, 92% similarity. Six members faecium group ( E. hirae durans villorum mundtii...
Twenty-three acetic acid bacteria, isolated from traditional heap fermentations of Ghanaian cocoa beans, were subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. The isolates catalase-positive, oxidase-negative, Gram-negative rods. They oxidized ethanol and unable produce 2-ketogluconic acid, 5-ketogluconic 2,5-diketogluconic glucose; therefore, they tentatively identified as Acetobacter species. 16S rRNA gene sequencing phylogenetic analysis confirmed their position in the genus , with syzygii...
The fluorescent amplified fragment length polymorphism (FAFLP) groups A5 (21 isolates), A8 (6 isolates) and A23 (3 distinguished in an earlier paper (Thompson et al., Syst Appl Microbiol 24, 520–538, 2001) were examined more depth. These three phylogenetically related to Vibrio tubiashii, but DNA–DNA hybridization experiments proved that the AFLP are fact novel species. Chemotaxonomic phenotypic analyses further revealed several differences among 30 isolates known It is proposed accommodate...
In this study, the taxonomic positions of 19 Vibrio isolates disclosed in a previous study were evaluated. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA sequences partitioned these into groups that closely related (98·8–99·1 % similarity) to pelagius and xuii, respectively. DNA–DNA hybridization experiments further showed had <70 similarity other species. Two novel species are proposed accommodate groups: fortis sp. nov.
