To study the effect of Shiitake (Lentinus edodes) and Maitake (Grifola frondosa) on hypertension, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were fed a diet containing 5% mushroom powder 0.5% NaCl solution as drinking water for 9 weeks. The dietary mushrooms decreased blood pressure. plasma free cholesterol level in Shiitake-fed animals, whereas Maitake-fed animals total decreased. There was no difference triglyceride phospholipid levels among experimental groups. feeding resulted decrease VLDL-...
Cereal grains and germs are good sources of various phytochemicals. The major phytochemicals present in cereal are: phenolic acids, flavones, phytic acid, flavanoids, coumarins, terpenes. ferulic glutathione, phytosterols. In addition, the germ acontains vitamins E, B1, B2, B3, minerals P, K, Mg, Ca, Zn, S, fiber. Because its rich nutrient content, would be a valuable ingredient for production functional foods. Our article examines feasibility using constituents selected such as wheat, oat,...
The compositional analysis of volatile compounds Nigella sativa L. seeds obtained from India and Bangladesh was carried out in this study. Apart the proportion compounds, chemical composition both sources were similar. major p-cymene (36.35%), thymoquinone (29.77%), α-thujene (12.40%), carvacrol (2.85%), β-pinene (2.41%), limonene (1.64%), methyl linoleate (1.33%) sabinene (1.18%), contribution these is 87.93% total oil. On other hand, Indian (41.80%), (13.93%), (10.27%), (4.02%), (3.65%),...
The blood pressure of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were significantly reduced by Maitake feeding for 8 weeks period beginning at a time when the animals 10 age with well-established high pressure. There was no difference in plasma total and free cholesterol, triglyceride phospholipid levels between fed control, On other hand, Shiitake mushroom did not reduce pressure, but lower compared control. results suggest that dietary
The associations between body image and attitudes toward obesity thinness their with measured mass index (BMI) among female students of Kuwait University (n = 137) was examined in 2008. perceptions were assessed using nine silhouettes figures. difference current perceived (PBI) ideal (IBI) used as a measure dissatisfaction (BID). Students tended to have bigger PBI smaller IBI than would be expected from BMI category, leading high levels BID each category. PBI, IBI, BID, RBI highly correlated...
Cancer and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are associated with genetic mutation often seen as the results of altered signals. Several nutraceuticals have been found to be effective in treating these diseases clinical practice through modulation biochemical endpoints pathogenesis cancer MetS. In line availability multiple interventions that could counteract changes, there is mounting evidence for potential complementary medicine on foundation their multi-factorial nature. Although MetS major...
Adverse sensory changes prevent the addition of highly bioavailable ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) to most wheat flours. Poorly absorbable reduced Fe powders are commonly used. Encapsulation FeSO4 can overcome these changes, but particle size commercial compounds is too large be used by flour mills. The first objective study was measure efficacy in two newly developed compounds, an H-reduced powder (NutraFine RS; North America Höganäs High Alloys LLC, Johnstown, PA, USA) and small particle-sized...
The biodistribution and metabolism of [8-14C]-octacosanol in rats were investigated to understand the mechanism increased physical exercise motor endurance by octacosanol. After 14C-octacosanol administered, radioactivity octacosanol was mainly found adipose tissue, especially brown tissue. Absorption is very low excreted through feces. also partly expired as 14CO2. About 49% administered dose different pathways. Metabolites are present urine. Octacosanol may be oxidized degraded fatty acids...
To study total phenolic content and antioxidant properties of 80% methanol extracts ten high yielding rice varieties, five each from two different seasons namely aman boro Bangladesh. Total was measured by Folin-Ciocalteau method while 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, hydroxyl ion ferric reducing power (Ferric power), capacity (TAC) ammonium molybdate, were used to analyze their Antioxidant properties. Rice variaty BR5 BRRI dhan28 season comparatively showed higher...
