Abstract Objectives: Prolonged survival of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on environmental surfaces and personal protective equipment may lead to these transmitting this pathogen others. We sought determine the effectiveness a pulsed-xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV) disinfection system in reducing load SARS-CoV-2 hard N95 respirators. Methods: Chamber slides respirator material were directly inoculated with exposed different durations PX-UV. Results: For surfaces, for...
This study evaluated the use of pulsed-xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV) room disinfection by sampling frequently touched surfaces in vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) isolation rooms. The PX-UV system showed a statistically significant reduction microbial load and eliminated VRE on sampled when using 12-minute multiposition treatment cycle.
Health care-associated transmission of Clostridium difficile has been well documented in long-term acute care facilities. This article reports on 2 interventions aimed at reducing the risk: multidisciplinary teams and no-touch pulsed-xenon disinfection. C rates were tracked over a 39-month period while these implemented. After baseline 1 year, implemented for an additional 1-year with focus infection. During this time, dropped 17% (P = .91). In following 15-month period, continued,...
The role of contaminated environments in the spread hospital-associated infections has been well documented. This study reports impact a pulsed xenon ultraviolet no-touch disinfection system on infection rates community care facility. This was conducted hospital Southern Florida. Beginning November 2012, implemented as an adjunct to traditional cleaning methods discharge select rooms. technology uses flashlamp generate germicidal light that damages DNA organisms environment. device intensive...
While research has demonstrated the importance of a clean health care environment, there is lack on role portable medical equipment (PME) play in transmission cycle healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs). This study investigated patterns and sequence contact events among workers, patients, surfaces, hospital environment. Research staff observed patient over six different 24 h periods units. Each encounter was recorded as analyzed using analysis visually represented by network plots. In...
The doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE) after contamination with pathogens such as Ebola poses a risk to health care workers. Pulsed xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV) disinfection has been used disinfect surfaces in hospital settings. This study examined the impact PX-UV on an surrogate virus glass carriers and PPE material examine potential benefits using decontaminate while worn, thereby reducing pathogen load prior doffing. Ultraviolet (UV) safety coverage tests were also conducted....
The standard for Clostridium difficile surface decontamination is bleach solution at a concentration of 10 % sodium hypochlorite. Pulsed xenon UV light (PX-UV) means quickly producing germicidal that has been shown to be effective in reducing environmental contamination by C. spores. purpose this study was investigate whether PX-UV equivalent surfaces infection isolation rooms. High-touch rooms previously occupied infected patients were sampled after discharge but before and cleaning using...
Environmental cleanliness is one of the contributing factors for surgical site infections in operating rooms (ORs). To decrease environmental contamination, pulsed xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV), an easy and safe no-touch disinfection system, employed several hospital environments. The positive effect this technology on decontamination has been observed patient ORs during end-of-day cleaning but so far, no study explored its feasibility between cases OR.In study, 5 high-touch surfaces 30 were...
This study aimed to determine HIV, HCV, and syphilis prevalence correlates, characterize the molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 among injecting drug users (IDUs) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. A cross-sectional assessing risk factors for HIV HCV through an interview administered survey was conducted. total 491 active adult IDUs were recruited from May November 2004 antibody status determined with rapid testing confirmed ELISA. conducted using a BIOELISA kit. subtyping done on subset full-length...

This study evaluates the influence of nightly pulsed-xenon ultraviolet light disinfection and dedicated housekeeping staff on surgical site infection (SSI) rates. SSIs in class I procedures were reduced by 46% (P = .0496), with a potential cost savings $478,055. II increased 22.9%, but this was not significant .6973). Based these results, it appears that intervention reduces SSI rates clean (class I), clean-contaminated II) procedures.
Abstract Background Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Tracking the dissemination VRE strains is crucial to understand dynamics emergence spread hospital setting. Methods Whole genome sequencing (WGS) phylogenetic analyses were performed identify dominant potential transmission networks between 35 patients with VRE-positive rectal swabs their rooms (main bathrooms) on leukemia (LKM) hematopoietic cell transplant...
Abstract The Russian federation has been undergoing a concentrated epidemic of HIV-1 with high rates infection among injecting drug users. Less is known about the relative risk and contribution to country's HIV by other at-risk populations including sex workers men who have men. goals this project were explore demographic characteristics, substance use patterns, estimate prevalence sexually transmitted infections (STIs) high-risk behaviors male (MSW) in Moscow assess feasibility prospective...
Standard approaches to meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) prevention have included hand hygiene and active surveillance. These shown mixed results. The addition of pulsed xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV) room disinfection for MRSA is a novel approach. This new method was implemented at an acute care hospital system in Greensboro, NC, USA. An screening programme over six-month period from July 2011 January 2012 include all high-risk patients the majority surgical patients. A two-week...
Quality improvement initiatives combined with pulsed xenon ultraviolet room disinfection were implemented to reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) in patients undergoing total joint procedures. After 12 months, knee SSIs reduced from 4 0 (P = .03) and hip 3 .15) for a prevention of 7 .01) savings $290,990. Orthopedic or procedures are associated 3% rate mortality1Awad S.S. Hospital environment in patient care has been linked on healthcare-associated infections (HAI). No touch disinfection technologies that utilize pulsed xenon ultraviolet light recognized to prevent infection contaminated environments. The purpose of this study was: 1) evaluate the effectiveness pulsed-xenon (PX-UV) for reduction bacteria environmental surfaces General Enrique Garcés, and 2) in-vitro efficacy against multi-drug resistance microorganisms. This was a quality-improvement looking...
Phages are naturally occurring viruses that selectively kill bacterial species without disturbing the individual’s normal flora, averting collateral damage of antimicrobial usage. The safety and effectiveness phages have been mainly confirmed in food industry as well animal models. In this study, we report on successful isolation specific to Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, including Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) faecalis from sewage samples, demonstrate their efficacy for VREfm infection...
