A family in which a translocation t(11; 21) (q23 ;q22) was segregating through three generations studied clinically and cytogenetically. Individuals mono somic for the distal part of long arm chromosome No. 11 showed severe malformations retardation. Apatient trisomic this mentally retarded but less severely affected. Marker gene studies could exclude location several blood group loci at 11, did not give any positive evidence linkage to part.

It seems to be generally accepted that genetic factors take a place among the causes of coronary heart disease. Careful and extensive family studies, others by workers in Carter's group, have shown risk close relatives patients with disease is significantly increased. This may, however, an effect common social background families. Systematic twin investigations been needed, which could distinguish between effects environment genes, allow estimate relative importance environmental factors....

Background Long-term clinical studies of peripartum cardiomyopathy ( PPCM ) are few. We aimed to measure the long-term effect on cardiac function in comparison with effects severe preeclampsia and uncomplicated pregnancy. Methods Results A nationwide Danish cohort women diagnosed from 2005 2014 group) were invited participate a follow-up study including maximal cardiopulmonary exercise testing magnetic resonance imaging. Matched previous (preeclampsia pregnancies (uncomplicated served as...

Abstract The mothers of a consecutive series 125 same sexed pairs twins aged 6 months to 1/2 years completed mailed questionnaire concerning the physical similarity twin partners. Zygosity diagnoses were first determined blindly on basis answers given by mothers, who did not know result blood group test when fullfilling questionnaire. Next, results compared with zygosity determination based examination erythrocyteserum- and enzyme-groups. It turned out that few simple questions distinguished...

ABSTRACT. The entire population of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in Denmark diagnosed the period January 1, 1945, to June 30,1985, comprised 514 persons whom 62 were at autopsy. Of remaining 452 patients, 372 probands and 80 secondary cases. effect a centralized treatment on prognosis was evaluated using Cox's regression model. Furthermore an incidence analysis performed including autopsies. Centrab'zed had significantly beneficial ( p =0.02), death intensity (hazard rate) being decreased by...

BACKGROUND: As a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, preeclampsia is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality later in life. Since early signs myocardial affection could indicate higher risk future disease manifestations, we investigated whether women prior have prevalence left ventricular hypertrophy compared from the general population to what extent chronic hypertension affects any potential difference. METHODS: In cohort study, aged 40 55 years were age-...

Anticonvulsants have been suspected of teratogenicity, with facial clefts being the malformation most frequently associated maternal anticonvulsant therapy. Paternal epilepsy has also suggested as a factor in genesis birth defects, including clefts. An association between per se and would be reflected higher cleft prevalence among epileptics, consequently result an increase such malformations their children.
