ABSTRACT Flexible behaviors over long timescales are thought to engage recurrent neural networks in deep brain regions, which experimentally challenging study. In insects, circuit dynamics a region called the central complex (CX) enable directed locomotion, sleep, and context- experience-dependent spatial navigation. We describe first complete electron-microscopy-based connectome of Drosophila CX, including all its neurons circuits at synaptic resolution. identified new CX neuron types,...

In this article we consider poro-elastic and poro-visco-elastic models inspired by problems in medicine biology, perform sensitivity analysis on the solutions of these fluid-solid mixture with respect to imposed boundary data, which are main drivers system. Moreover, compare results obtained elastic case vs. visco-elastic case, as it is known that structural viscosity biological tissues decreases age disease. Sensitivity first step towards optimization control associated models, our ultimate goal.

We investigate the complex-step method as applied to compute sensitivities with respect model "parameters" for several types of examples. We first consider time delayed differential equations (DDEs) whose are known have lack smoothness or even discontinuities parameters such delays. The second type "parameter sensitivity" we is that solutions partial (PDEs) boundary conditions which again may not possess smoothness. These fundamental in any control formulation those motivate Section 4 below.Our...

ABSTRACT To flexibly navigate, many animals rely on internal spatial representations that persist when the animal is standing still in darkness, and update accurately by integrating animal’s movements absence of localizing sensory cues. Theories mammalian head direction cells have proposed these dynamics can be realized a special class networks maintain localized bump activity via structured recurrent connectivity, shift this angular velocity input. Although there are different variants...

Poro-elastic systems have been used extensively in modeling fluid flow porous media petroleum and earthquake engineering. Nowadays, they are frequently to model through biological tissues, cartilages, bones. In these applications, the fluid-solid mixture problems, which may also incorporate structural viscosity, considered on bounded domains with appropriate non-homogeneous boundary conditions. The recent work [12] provided a theoretical numerical analysis of nonlinear poro-elastic...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common cause of chronic disease. Precipitated by build up extra fat in not caused alcohol, it still understood why steatosis occurs where does microstructure non-alcoholic It likely, however, that location due, at least part, to metabolic zonation (heterogeneity among cells function and enzyme expression). Recently, there has been an influx computational mathematical models order investigate relationship between Of interest these are...
