Carotid webs (CaWs) are fibromuscular projections in the internal carotid artery (ICA) that cause mild luminal narrowing (<50%), but may be causative up to one-third of seemingly cryptogenic strokes. Understanding hemodynamic alterations caused by CaWs is imperative assessing stroke risk. Time-Average Wall Shear Stress (TAWSS) and Oscillatory Index (OSI) parameters linked vascular dysfunction thrombosis.
Background Carotid webs (CaWs) are associated with ischemic strokes in younger patients without degrees of stenosis that traditionally considered clinically significant. Objective To compare the hemodynamic parameters internal carotid artery (ICA) bulbar segment CaW those atherosclerotic lesions using time–density curve (TDC) analysis digital subtraction angiography (DSA) images. Methods We retrospectively assessed DSA images 47 arteries 41 adult who underwent ICA catheter for evaluation...
Purpose To determine the relationship between hepatic proton density fat fraction (PDFF) and R2* in vivo. Materials Methods In this Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA)‐compliant, Institutional Review Board (IRB)‐approved, cross‐sectional study, we conducted a secondary analysis of 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams performed as part prospective research studies children whom conditions associated with iron overload were excluded clinically. Each exam included...
OBJECTIVE Rupture of large or giant intracranial aneurysms leads to significant morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Both coiling the Pipeline embolization device (PED) have been shown be safe clinically effective for treatment unruptured aneurysms; however, relative cost-to-outcome ratio is unknown. The authors present first cost-effectiveness analysis compare economic impact PED compared with no endovascular management aneurysms. METHODS A Markov model was constructed simulate a...
Background Improving the signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) of chemical‐shift‐encoded MRI acquisition with complex reconstruction (MRI‐C) may improve accuracy and precision noninvasive proton density fat fraction (PDFF) quantification in patients hepatic steatosis. Purpose To assess high SNR (Hi‐SNR) MRI‐C versus standard to estimate PDFF adult pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) using an MR spectroscopy (MRS) sequence as reference standard. Study Type Prospective....
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The comparative detection rates of deep gray matter (GM) multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions using double inversion recovery (DIR) and fluid‐attenuated inversion‐recovery (FLAIR) on 3T MR imaging remain unknown. We aimed to assess the detectability cortical GM MS DIR FLAIR clinical exams evaluate relationship between brain atrophy. METHODS One hundred fifty consecutive patients underwent routine MRI that included 3D 2D T2 same scanner. Three neuroradiologists...
OBJECTIVE Peripheral nerve transfers to regain elbow flexion via the ulnar (Oberlin transfer) and median nerves are surgical options that benefit patients. Prior studies have assessed comparative effectiveness of for upper trunk brachial plexus injury, yet no study has examined cost-effectiveness this surgery improve quality-adjusted life years (QALYs). The authors present a model Oberlin transfer restore in adult population with injury. METHODS Using Markov model, simulated conservative...
Introduction Carotid webs (CaWs) have been shown to present with a long time of contrast stagnation during digital subtraction angiography (DSA) runs, and this has proposed as potential underlying physiopathological feature facilitating thrombosis stroke. We aim evaluate the relationship quantified vascular imaging structural characteristics clinical features CaW. Methods retrospectively assessed 48 patients CaWs who underwent computerized tomography (CTA) DSA. CaWs’ were evaluated: 1)...
