The objective this paper is to assess use ERS-1 SAR data map retrieve parameters. approach includes first a synthesis experimental results at two different test followed by development theoretical model interpret observations. areas, tropical site with short cycle (Semarang, Indonesia) temperate long (Akita, Japan), has shown that fields have...
The 21st century will become an era of autonomous robots that help and support people. Thus, they be considered as partners human beings. In this paper, the author introduces AIBO, first product model Robot Entertainment Systems. main application robot is a pet-style robot, which must maintain lifelike appearance. suggests how to maximize complexity responses movements solve problem substantially increasing appearance robots. technologies used in AIBO are also described. Although not...

In this paper we describe effects of human interactions with a pet-type robot, especially AIBO. First, design concept for AIBO based on how to increase its "lifelike" appearance. By introducing statistical results marketing, and experiments involving human-robot using AIBO, show that robot activates emotions effectively. Furthermore, the demonstrate helps in human-human communication. We discuss phenomena interaction attempt explain why happened.
This communication presents preliminary results of the first attempt to monitor rice crop growth from space transplanting harvesting with an active microwave instrument using ERS-1 C-band SAR. The variation /spl sigma//sup 0/ for a test field in Akita Prefectural College Agriculture obtained multitemporal SAR data is evaluated by comparing ground truth condition. feasibility shown estimating number days after and hence stage measurement. Correlation analysis suggests close relationship...
Poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(L-lactic acid)-b-poly(D-lactic acid) (PEG-b-PLLA-b-PDLA) stereoblock copolymers were synthesized by sequential ring-opening polymerization. Their micelle formation, precise structure, biodegradation, and drug release behavior systematically investigated compared with the PEG-b-poly(lactic (PEG-b-PLA) diblock various PLA stereostructures PEG-b-PLLA/PEG-b-PDLA enantiomeric mixture. Stereoblock having comparable PLLA PDLA block lengths enantiomerically-mixed...
A challenging task that must be accomplished for every legged robot is creating the walking and running behaviors needed it to move. In this paper we describe our system autonomously evolving dynamic gaits on two of Sony's quadruped robots. Our evolutionary algorithm runs board uses robot's sensors compute quality a gait without assistance from experimenter. First, show evolution pace trot OPEN-R prototype robot. With fastest gait, moves at over 10 m/min, which more than forty...
A series of 5,7-disubstituted 1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-4(1H)-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acids (10-36) were prepared; the C-5 substituent in these compounds comprised halo, hydroxy, mercapto, and amino groups C-7 functional group included variously substituted piperazines. In vitro antibacterial screening results indicated that was optimal among substituents. combination 3,5-dimethylpiperazinyl appendage this conferred best overall property with lack adverse drug interactions. Compound 36k...
An evolutionary algorithm is used to evolve gaits with the Sony entertainment robot, AIBO. All processing handled by robot's on-board computer individuals evaluated using hardware. By sculpting experimental environment, we increase robustness different surface types and AIBOs. Evolved are faster than those created hand. Using this technique a gait in consumer version of
A humanoid robot that can go up and down stairs, crawl underneath obstacles or simply walk around requires reliable perceptual capabilities for obtaining accurate useful information about its surroundings. In this work we present a system generating three-dimensional (3D) environment maps from data taken by stereo vision. At the core is method precise segmentation of range into planar segments based on algorithm scan-line grouping extended to cope with noise dynamics off-line experiments...
The annealing behavior of poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(d-lactic (PDLA) single crystals was investigated in order to reveal the mechanism chain diffusion their solid states, below melting points. structural changes sedimented single-crystal mats on continuous heating were followed real time by synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) wide-angle diffraction (WAXD) measurements. crystal homopolymer showed a discontinuous thickening at an temperature each point. experimental...
Abstract The hydrogen bond is undoubtedly one of the most important non-covalent interactions. Among several types bonds, CH–π interaction a relatively new notion that being recognised in chemistry and biology. Although conventional bonds share common features such as directionality, this weak has played secondary role molecular recognition. In study, we have devised host–guest complex assembled solely by bonds. Multivalent interactions bowl-shaped hydrocarbon with its peripheral atoms are...
Bin picking is still a challenge in robotics, as patent recent robot competitions. These competitions are an excellent platform for technology comparisons since some participants may use state-of-the-art technologies, while others conventional ones. Nevertheless, even though points awarded or subtracted based on the performance frame of competition rules, final score does not directly reflect suitability technology. Therefore, it difficult to understand which technologies and their...
SDR-4X is the latest prototype model, which remains a small humanoid type robot and expanding its capabilities for adaptability in home environment. Some of new key technologies have been developed SDR-4X. The first newly actuators named ISA-4, second real-time integrated adaptive motion control. third creating software system, allows us to create SDR's attractive performances. fourth technology real-world space perception, fifth multi-modal human interaction. These five enable realize...
Abstract Summary: Biodegradable poly[( R )‐3‐hydroxybutyrate] (P(3HB)) fibers with high tensile strength of 1.32 GPa were processed from ultra‐high‐molecular‐weight P(3HB) by a method combining cold‐drawing and two‐step‐drawing procedures at room temperature. The distribution molecular structures in mono‐filament was analyzed micro‐beam X‐ray diffraction synchrotron radiation. It revealed that the fiber has new core‐sheath structure consistent two types conformations: 2 1 helix conformation...
Biodegradable fibers of poly[(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-8%-(R)-3-hydroxyvalerate] (P(3HB-co-8%-3HV)) produced from wild-type bacteria were prepared by melt-spinning, followed in an amorphous state quenching near the glass transition temperature (Tg). High tensile strength over 1 GPa one-step drawing with small crystal nuclei grown isothermal crystallization Tg. This new technique is a very attractive method for obtaining strong low-molecular-weight polyesters bacteria. The highly ordered...

From planes, climbed are extracted fed which decides action taken next....
Task performed at a height, such as wall inspections are one of the dangerous tasks for humans. Thus, robotic technology safety inspection is required. This research focuses on developing robots to climb vertical walls with flat and uneven surfaces, e.g. concrete, tile riveted structure. To have wall-climbing capability, climbing use vacuum pads, claws, magnets, intermolecular force, adhesive. However, each these approaches has disadvantages. achieve an surface without scratching staining,...
Abstract Aromaticity has been a central concept in chemistry since the discovery of benzene 19th century and impacted science delocalized π-electron systems. The aromaticity conventional aromatic compounds usually originates from electron delocalization through single ring that consists π-symmetric orbitals. Although double aromaticity, i.e. composed two circularly orbitals, theoretically predicted for over 20 years, bench-stable compound is not well explored by experiment. Here we report...
