TAFRO症候群は，血小板減少（thrombocytopenia），腔水症（anasarca），発熱（fever），骨髄線維症（myelofibrosis），腎機能障害（renal dysfunction），臓器腫大（organomegaly）を特徴とする．症例は66歳，男性．7カ月前に血小板数減少を指摘され，約1カ月前より腹痛，胸腹水貯留が生じた．前医入院後に腎機能障害が出現し，当院転院となり，TAFRO症候群と診断した．比較的急峻な経過を辿るもステロイドおよびシクロスポリンによる治療で改善した．血小板減少を伴う腎機能障害の鑑別にTAFRO症候群を挙げることが肝心である．
