A challenge for conservation management is to understand how population and habitat dynamics interact affect species persistence. In real landscapes, timing duration of disturbances can vary, species' responses changes will depend on dispersal reproduction events relate the landscape temporal structure. For instance, increasing disturbance frequency may promote extinction that are unable appropriately time their in an ever-changing favor able track changes. We developed a mathematical model...

In this study we assessed the relationship between laboratory and field performance of different isofemale lines Trichogramma pretiosum Riley. comparative assays, used three rare mitochondrial haplotypes as genetic markers lines, by introgressing these into each 15 genetically nuclear also tested assumption that mitochondria are neutral markers. a trial, 45 (15 genotypes x haplotypes) were ranked in categories (best, intermediate worst) according to mean offspring production proportion...

The cotton bollworm Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a widespread pest of many cultivated and wild plants in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia. In 2013, this species was reported Brazil, attacking various host crops the midwestern northeastern regions country now found countrywide. Aiming to understand effects different on life cycle H. armigera, we selected seven that mature seasons are commonly grown these regions: (Gossypium hirsutum, "FM993"), corn (Zea mays,...

Innovative approaches used to combat Chagas disease transmission tend combine a set of comprehensive efforts understand the ecology local vectors. In this work we identified molecularly blood meal 181 Triatoma brasiliensis, distributed in 18 populations (8 sylvatic and 10 peridomestic), which were collected across range 240 km (East-West) 95 (North-South) semi-arid region northeastern, Brazil. We vertebrate mitochondrial gene (cytochrome B) sequencing applied DNA isolated from bug midgut...

In this study the seasonal variation of fecundity, wing and tibia size was investigated in natural populations Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) aiming at determining variations life history species as a function seasonality. A relative constant temporal trajectory found for over twelve months. Strong positive correlations between temperature, temperature sizes were observed. The implications results population dynamics C. discussed.

Species distributions are affected by landscape structure at different spatial scales. Here we study how the interplay between dispersal scales and connectivity composition affect local species dynamics. Using a host-parasitoid model, assessed host density occupancy on landscape, under parasitoid ranges three of non-crop habitats, areas where hosts unable to grow but parasitoids provided with alternative food resources. Our results show distinct responses increases in area, measured...

The Triatoma brasiliensis species complex is a monophyletic group encompassing two subspecies and six species. Recently, hybrid zone of members this was recorded in the state Pernambuco. Questions concerning capability hybrids to become infected with Trypanosoma cruzi have been raised. This study aimed compare susceptibility b. brasiliensis, juazeirensis, their experimental infection T. cruzi. We experimentally and theoretically investigated the persistence of hosts parasitoids interacting in a metapopulation structure consisting ephemeral local patches (MELPs). used host–parasitoid system necrophagous Diptera species their pupal parasitoids. The basal resources by host were assumed to be ephemeral, supporting only one generation individuals before completely disappearing from environment. measured effects demographic processes two scenarios: 1) constant occurrence at single site...

Abstract It is well known that a predator has the potential to regulate prey population only if responds increases in density and inflicts greater mortality rates. Predators may cause such density‐dependent depending on nature of functional numerical responses. Yet, few studies have examined relationship between addition refuges characteristic response fits. We investigated whether refuge changed type exhibited by Dermestes ater Musca domestica , comparing inherent ability D. kill houseflies...
