This study was directed to assess the clinical impact of circulating cathepsin L, cystatin C, activin A, and follistatin in breast cancer patients. The serum concentrations these molecules were determined by immunoenzymatic assays, their association with some clinico-pathological parameters progression evaluated. Our results identified C A as predictive markers for presence bone metastasis, respectively. Therefore, proteins may have a role biomarkers diagnosis therapeutic monitoring

The serum levels of lysosomal cathepsin B and L Stefin A, an intracellular inhibitor these proteolytic enzymes, were determined in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and/or liver cirrhosis (LC) correlated some clinical biochemical parameters diseases. Cathepsin increased HCC LC as compared to normal subjects (p < 0.001). However no difference was observed between groups. Interestingly, a significant relationship evidenced content the grade severity (r = 0.41; p significantly...

Zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate that effective in the treatment of complications metastatic bone disease. We have carried out perspective study on 24 consecutive patients with prostate cancer to verify effect zoledronic analgesic response and possible relationship levels metabolism biomarkers.Eligibility for this required disease pain not controlled by analgesics. Patients were excluded from if they receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy or radiation therapy within three months.Eighteen (75%)...

Lysosomal cathepsins D (CD), B (CB), and L (CL) serum levels were determined by immunoassays in patients with chronic (CHP) or acute (AP) pancreatitis ductal pancreatic carcinoma (DPC) correlated some biological clinical parameters of this tumor. CB concentrations significantly higher than those measured healthy subjects (NS) observed CHP, AP, DPC (p < 0.01). However, no significant difference was noted among these groups. Increased CL evident only cancer compared to NS, CHP groups 0.05),...

Experiments were performed to assess the dose-dependent effects of quercetin, kaempferol, (+) catechin, and (-) epicatechin on superoxide radical production through modulation manganese dismutase xanthine oxidase activities. The experiments carried out at flavanoid concentrations ranging from 1 µM 100 µM. This investigation highlighted that flavonols induced opposite different doses, i.e. pro-oxidant highest concentration (100 µM) anti-oxidant lowest (1 µM). Similar behaviors observed for...

Cathepsin D content and activity were determined in matched paired sets of colorectal tumor tissue normal mucosa correlated with a number biological clinical parameters. Significantly higher cathepsin was measured cytosol compared to (p < 0.02), Dukes' stage A tumors B C 0.05), 5 cm those > cm, or low proliferation rate high 0.05). Moreover, significant differences enzyme between observed node-positive G2 No correlation other parameters found. Further, no except 0.02). significantly...
