Background: It has been shown that chronic ankle instability (CAI) leads to abnormalities in neuromuscular control of more proximal joints than the ankle. Although strength hip and muscles largely investigated providing concordant results, limited evidence with contrasting results reported regarding knee extensor flexor muscles. Purpose: To investigate maximal submaximal isometric muscle individuals CAI. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Fifteen participants unilateral CAI...
The persistence of quadriceps weakness represents a major concern following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). underlying adaptations occurring in the activity spinal motoneurons are still unexplored. This study examined discharge patterns large populations motor units (MUs) vastus lateralis (VL) and medialis muscles ACLR. Nine ACLR individuals 10 controls performed unilateral trapezoidal contractions knee extensor at 35%, 50% 70% maximal voluntary isometric force (MVIF)....
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) are ideal candidates for regenerative and immunomodulatory therapies. The use of xenogeneic protein-free Good Manufacturing Practice-compliant growth media is a prerequisite clinical MSC isolation expansion. Human platelet lysate (HPL) has been efficiently implemented into manufacturing as substitute fetal bovine serum (FBS). Because the human-derived blood materials alleviates immunologic risks but not transmission blood-borne viruses, aim our study was to...
Single-limb stance (SLS) is a demanding postural task, widely used for balance assessment in both research and clinical practice. Despite extensive data on elderly populations, less known about younger healthier adults. Our aim this study was to assess during SLS task among cohort of healthy adults determine whether there are age or sex group testing condition differences performances. In cross-sectional study, we involved 120 participants aged 30–65 years divided them into four sub-groups...
Quadriceps weakness and asymmetrical loading of lower limbs are two major issues after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The aim this study was to evaluate the effectiveness a 6-wk training protocol involving neuromuscular electrical stimulations (NMES) quadriceps muscle superimposed on repeated sit-to-stand-to-sit exercises (STSTS), as an additional treatment standard rehabilitation, from 15th 60th day ACLR.Sixty-three ACLR patients were randomly allocated one three groups:...
Chronic quadriceps dysfunction is common after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). We investigated voluntary force control strategies by estimating inputs to motor neurons innervating the vastii muscles. Our results showed attenuated vastus lateralis and plastic rearrangements in functional clusters of modulating knee extension forces reconstructed limb. These findings suggest neuroplastic adjustments following ACLR that may occur fine-tune forces.
The aim of this study was to examine whether asymmetrical lower limb loading early after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (1 mo) can predict at the time return sport (6 mos) and other predictors as knee joint range motion or maximal isometric strength affect relationship.Ground reaction forces were measured during a sit-to-stand task 1 mo vertical countermovement jump 6 mos in 58 athletes. Other postoperative measurements (2 wks, mo, 2 surgery) extensor flexor muscles surgery)....
The study aimed at investigating the effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation superimposed on functional exercises (NMES+) early after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLr) with hamstring graft, muscle strength, knee function, and morphology thigh muscles harvested tendons. Thirty-four participants were randomly allocated to either NMES+ group, who received standard rehabilitation additional NMES flexor extensor muscles, movements, or a control no training (NAT) traditional...
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are classified as advanced therapy medicinal products, a new category of GMP (good manufacturing practice)-compliant medicines for clinical use. We isolated MSCs from 5 bone marrow (BM) samples using human platelet lysate (HPL) instead foetal bovine serum (FBS). used method HPL production consisting treating (PLTs) pools with Ca-Gluconate to form gel clot, then mechanically squeezing release growth factors. compared the (HPL-S) standard (HPL-E) obtained by...
It is well known that alterations in landing mechanics persist for years after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R). Nevertheless, existing literature controversial reporting successful or unsuccessful recovery of prelanding muscle activation timing ACL-R. The study aimed at comparing myoelectric and kinematic patterns during tasks between ACL-R healthy subjects.Cross-sectional study.Institutional research laboratory.Fifteen male athletes using patellar tendon 11 hamstrings...
The neural factors underlying the persistency of quadriceps weakness after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) have been only partially explained. This study examined muscle fiber conduction velocity (MFCV) as an indirect parameter motor unit recruitment strategies in vastus lateralis (VL) and medialis (VM) muscles soccer players with ACLR. High‐density surface electromyography (HDsEMG) was acquired from VL VM nine (22.7 ± 2.9 years; BMI: 22.08 1.72 kg·m −2 ; 7.7 2.2 months...
Abstract Purpose Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) superimposed on voluntary muscle contraction has been recently shown as an innovative training modality within sport and rehabilitation, but its effects the neuromuscular system are still unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate acute responses in spinal excitability, measured by Hoffmann (H) reflex, maximal (MVIC) following NMES isometric contractions (NMES + ISO) compared passive only (ISO). Method Fifteen young adults...
Single-limb stance is a demanding postural task featuring high number of daily living and sporting activities. Thus, it widely used for training rehabilitation, as well balance assessment. Muscle activations around single joints have been previously described, however, not known which are the muscle synergies to control posture how they change between conditions normal lack visual information.Twenty-two healthy young participants were asked perform 30 s single-limb in open-eyes closed-eyes...
The effects of mental fatigue have been studied in relation to specific percentages maximal aerobic or anaerobic efforts, voluntary contractions the performance sport skills. However, its on tremor, dexterity and force steadiness only marginally explored. present work aimed at filling this gap. In twenty-nine young individuals, measurement postural, kinetic isometric pinch finger hand were performed before after either 100 min control tasks. During interventions blood pressure, oxygen...
Abstract Background The efficacy of early treatment with convalescent plasma in patients COVID-19 is debated. Nothing known about the potential effect other components than anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Methods To determine whether or standard would improve outcomes for adults phase Covid19 respiratory impairment we designed this randomized, three-arms, clinical trial (PLACO COVID) blinded on interventional arms that was conducted from June 2020 to August 2021. It a multicentric at 19 Italian...
In the study of muscle synergies during maintenance single-leg stance there are several methodological issues that must be taken into account before synergy extraction. particular, it is important to distinguish between epochs surface electromyography (sEMG) signals corresponding “well-balanced” and “unbalanced” stance, since different motor control strategies could used maintain balance. The aim this work present define a robust procedure chosen as input for algorithm extract synergies. Our...
ABSTRACT Introduction Plantar orthoses are widely used in the prevention and treatment of foot lower-limb disorders. can generally be classified as prefabricated devices; however, many devices customized. Customized orthotic insoles usually prescribed with goal improving function. However, evidence that customized modify function a predictable dose-responsive manner is limited, there currently no consensus on how should prescribed. Consequently, high variability prescriptions by physicians...
