ABSTRACT Today, accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) technology enables us to carry out very precise measurements of radiocarbon ( 14 C). Unfortunately, due fluctuations in the C calibration curve, resulting calibrated time intervals vary from decades up centuries age. Within a scale several decades, we can find on curve which correspond with periods rapid increases atmospheric CO 2 activity. Some these “high slope” parts could be used for fine resolution dating individual samples....

Human activities have shaped the environment since long before advent of agriculture and resulted in anthropogenic landscapes, which are sometimes perceived as natural, but clearly by dozens previous generations. This study is first to apply ecological niche modelling on a time-series archaeological data illuminate development landscape from perspective settlement behaviour its dependence environmental conditions. Using large dataset evidence prehistoric covering area Czech Republic spanning...

Environmental conditions such as climate, topography, and soil had an impact on prehistoric settlement strategies. By studying changes in structure the Nitra, Hron Ipel’ valleys southern Slovakia over course of Neolithic Eneolithic, preferences for various climatic topographic environments different periods can be seen. Besides cultural socio-economic factors, it also expected that climate contributed to change patterns. Climatic Eneolithic have been identified correlated with major...

One of the key unresolved questions regarding archaeology La Tène Europe concerns continuity settlement around 400 BC. Archaeological evidence in countries north Alps, including Czech Republic, declines during this period – a decline which for decades has generally been attributed to population migration. Demographic growth, climate deterioration, land depletion, disease, and social crisis have all put forward as reasons Our contribution critically reflects on these alternatives asks whether...

Ceramics are one of the commonest sources archaeological information, yet their abundance often confounds documentation and analysis. This article presents a new method documenting analyzing ceramics that includes laser-aided profile measurement to capture ceramic shape other information quickly accurately, resulting in digital outputs suitable for both publication morphometric Linked software database solutions enable unsupervised machine learning cluster shapes based on similarity,...

ABSTRACT Calibrated radiocarbon ( 14 C) determinations are commonly used in archaeology to assign calendar dates a site’s chronological phases identified based on additional evidence such as stratigraphy. In the absence of evidence, we can perform dense C sampling site attempt identify periods heightened activity, separated by inactivity, which correspond archaeological and gaps between them. We propose method achieve this hierarchical cluster analysis calibrated dates, followed testing...
