We report on local measurements of atom number fluctuations in slices a single 1D Bose gas with repulsive interactions. For weakly interacting gases, the are super-Poissonian at intermediate atomic densities and become sub-Poissonian high once enters into quantum quasi-condensate regime. At stronger interactions, when approaching fermionization regime, we no longer observe statistics; go from Poissonian to as density is increased, those Fermi gas.
We perform measurements of the third moment atom number fluctuations in small slices a very elongated weakly interacting degenerate Bose gas. find positive skewness distribution ideal gas regime and reduced compatible with zero quasi-condensate regime. For our parameters, is thermodynamic quantity whose measurement constitutes sensitive test equation state results are agreement modified Yang-Yang prediction. Moreover, we show that measured reveals presence true three body correlations system.
By measuring the density fluctuations in a highly elongated weakly interacting Bose gas, we observe and quantify transition from ideal gas to quasicondensate regime throughout dimensional crossover purely one-dimensional (1D) an almost three-dimensional (3D) gas. We show that entire region are described surprisingly well by modified Yang-Yang model. Furthermore, find at low temperatures linear scales according interaction-driven scenario of longitudinally uniform 1D whereas high it...
We report on Fourier spectroscopy experiments performed with near-surface nitrogen-vacancy centers in a diamond chip. By detecting the free precession of nuclear spins rather than applying multipulse quantum sensing protocol, we are able to unambiguously identify NMR species devoid harmonics. further show that by engineering different Hamiltonians during precession, hyperfine coupling parameters as well Larmor frequency can be selectively measured high precision (here 5 digits). The...
In the concept of dynamic hohlraum an imploding Z pinch is optically thick to its own radiation. Radiation may be trapped inside give a radiation temperature greater than that outside pinch. Stable and non-toxic fluorescent markers are gaining attention in molecular diagnostics as powerful tools for enabling long reliable biological studies. Such should not only have a half-life under several assay conditions showing no photo bleaching or blinking but also, they must allow their conjugation functionalization crucial step numerous applications such cellular tracking, biomarker detection drug delivery. We report the of stable based on nanodiamonds (NDs) with bifunctional peptide....
We report the first direct observation of collective quantum fluctuations in a continuous field. Shot-to-shot atom number small subvolumes weakly interacting, ultracold atomic 1D cloud are studied using situ absorption imaging and statistical analysis density profiles. In centers, well quasicondensate regime, ratio chemical potential to thermal energy is μ/k(B)T≃4, and, owing high resolution, up 20% microscopically observed phonons. Within nonlocal at variable length, we observe clear...
Terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy is used to investigate the gain and losses of a THz quantum cascade laser (QCL) operating at 2.86 THz. This measurement technique allows access amplitude phase spectra, allowing direct determination gain. At emission frequency QCL, value 6.5 cm -1 found. The can also be studied as function different conditions, even when no action present. Effects such...
Optically activated high voltage switches are commonly used in pulsed power systems for reliable low jitter, multichannel and multiswitch (low inductance) applications. In addition to jitter switching, optical activation provides a degree of electrical isolation between the triggering switching simplifying design. The disadvantages large-gap gas energy, line-of-sight optics, system maintenance required obtain operation. This paper describes two technologies which can reduce or eliminate...
We study experimentally the writing of one- and two-dimensional photorefractive lattices, focusing on often overlooked transient regime. Our measurements agree well with theory, in particular concerning ratio drift to diffusion terms. then transverse dynamics coherent waves propagating a few novel simple configurations. We study the propagation of tailored wave packets in a computer controlled photo-induced disorder. Disorder correlations cause real space ballistic front exponential Anderson Localization, and novel effects are observed Fourier space.
By measuring atom number fluctuations in slices of a single 1D Bose gas, we probe the crossover from weak to strong interactions and identify signatures sub-regimes dominated by thermal quantum fluctuations.
