Ionizing radiation (IR) and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced oxidative stress can cause damage to cellular biomolecules, including DNA, proteins, lipids. These harmful effects compromise essential functions significantly raise the risk of metabolic dysfunction, accumulation mutations, genome instability, cancer, accelerated senescence, even death. Here, we present an investigation HeLa cancer cells' early response gamma IR (γ-IR) after preincubation cells with natural extracts resurrection plant
The Orpheus flower Haberlea rhodopensis (Friv.) of the family Gesneriaceae can go into anabiosis for long periods in an almost entirely desiccated state. It is endemic relict from Balkan Peninsula. Alcohol extracts H. contain many biologically active substances with potent antioxidant, antigenotoxic, radioprotective, revitalizing and antiaging capabilities. However, regulating gene networks responsible these activities vastly unknown. This study explores cellular mechanisms underlying...
Betulinic acid (BA) is a natural pentacyclic triterpenoid with significant pharmaceutical potential. We found that converting BA into amino ethyl ester salts alters its cytotoxic effect on colorectal adenocarcinoma cells (HT-29). Among these salts, the estimated half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) at 72 h varies by up to fifteenfold. The proline [ProOEt] salt, most active compound, exhibited an IC value of 3.8 µM, which 4.8 times lower than parent BA. observed exposure or...
