The number of disasters involving tailings storage facilities has increased in Brazil. Only the last six years, there have been this type structure. Despite vast socio-environmental impacts, little done to mitigate damage caused. negligence mining companies and lack efficient management approaches at river basin-level greatly hampered efforts for environmental recovery. In addition, although Brazil signed 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development, a slowdown Brazilian legislation, which can...

Abstract Flow‐dependent fish specialists require specific conditions for reproduction, so the success and reproductive intensity of these animals are determined by flood regime. Thus, this study investigated spatial temporal patterns fish, especially migratory Prochilodu s species (flow‐dependent specialists) in an unusual period low flow Pará River sub‐basin, one main tributaries upper São Francisco River. For this, ichthyoplankton collections were carried out between November 2013 February...

Abstract The introduction of invasive species is a significant threat to freshwater ecosystems and changing the biogeographic patterns fish species, leading homogenization fauna. ability predict potential invasions critical in conservation biology avoid further biodiversity loss. Ecological niche modelling has become an important tool biological invasion studies. However, some introduced can spread habitats that are different from those their native range. A framework based on shifts...

The ichthyofauna of the Rio São Francisco basin is relatively well-documented. However, most this knowledge concentrated at upper stretch its catchment area. In study, we compile a list species encompassing almost entire length Carinhanha, an important tributary from upper-middle section Francisco, including comprehensive diversity environments. A total 99 8 orders and 27 families were recorded. Five are considered non-native, six classifieds as long distance migrants, three vulnerable. with...

The study of ichthyoplankton composition, abundance and distribution is paramount to understand the reproductive dynamics local fish assemblages. analysis these parameters allows identification spawning sites, nursery areas migration routes. However, due lack characters in early life stages, morphological often impractical many studies identify only larvae. Additionally, its accuracy shows great variation between taxonomists laboratories according their experience specialty. DNA barcoding...

Megalancistrus barrae is a species endemic to the São Francisco River basin that has not previously been recorded from Upper basin. The present work increases known distribution of by reporting new collections two different regions in basin: one Pará and other River, downstream Três Marias dam, Minas Gerais state. In addition, this study compiles distributional data on museums.

We established the length–weight relationships (LWR) for 78 fish species from São Francisco River basin, Brazil. Samples were originated different scientific projects performed between 1993 and 2019. Fishing gears used mainly gillnets cast nets of various mesh sizes. Specimens varied 0.6 to 128 cm (18.1 ± 11.8 cm) 0.01 26,900 g (317.9 733.6 g). The allometric coefficient b 2.509 3.494. For 66 species, LWR parameters completely novel and, other 12 are present first time basin.
