Background and Objectives
There are disparities in the prevalence of obesity by race, relationship between cognitive decline is unclear. The objective this study was to determine whether independently associated with association differs Black White adults. We hypothesized that greater compared normal weight effect on more pronounced adults their counterparts.
Methods
pooled data from 28,867 participants free stroke dementia (mean, SD: age 61 [10.7] years at first...

Abstract Context Leptin is an adipokine that signals energy sufficiency. In rodents, leptin deficiency decreases expenditure (EE), which corrected following replacement. humans, data are mixed regarding leptin-mediated effects on EE. Objective To determine the of metreleptin EE in patients with lipodystrophy. Design, setting, and Nonrandomized crossover study 25 lipodystrophy (National Institutes Health, 2013-2018). Intervention The initiation cohort consisted 17 without prior exposure to...

Abstract Patient online health searching is now commonplace, however, the accuracy of patient generated differentials for new symptoms and potential anxiety are concerns. We aimed primarily to determine with without searching, secondarily, evaluate impact on levels. In waiting room prior seeing a clinician, 300 patients were randomly assigned 1:1:1 Google related features including symptom search tool vs disabled no searching. Participants 18 years or older presenting emergency department an...

Gluconeogenesis is an energy-requiring process that upregulated in diabetes, contributing to hyperglycemia. Previous studies have estimated gluconeogenesis accounts for less than 10% of resting energy expenditure. This study estimates the expenditure attributable uncommon and severe forms insulin resistance common, milder resistance. In these populations, almost one-third expenditure, substantially higher previously theorized literature.

The effects of leptin, an adipocyte-derived hormone that signals overall energy sufficiency, can only be studied in leptin-deficient conditions. In patients with lipodystrophy, a rare disease and unique model leptin deficiency, treatment recombinant (metreleptin) improves glycemia decreases expenditure. We hypothesized these improvements might mediated by reduced gluconeogenesis (GNG), energy-requiring process.

Introduction: The obesity epidemic in the United States accelerated late 1970’s and has lifelong effects. Longitudinal patterns of racial/ethnic socioeconomic differences weight gain across lifespan are relatively uncharacterized. Hypothesis: Weight starts earlier is larger individuals who black or have less education compared to those white higher education; loss after midlife shows similar patterns. Methods: We analyzed body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) changes 14,291 ARIC participants (ages 45...

Introduction: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of inflammation that associated with obesity; also plays role in the onset cachexia. CRP and its relationship weight change (gain loss) less well understood, particularly studies including both middle-aged older adults. Hypothesis: Elevated subsequent body mass index (BMI) gain even more strongly BMI loss Methods: We analyzed (kg/m2) changes 11,136 ARIC participants followed since Visit 2 (1990 - 92) when was measured (Table 1). between...

Abstract Disclosure: E. Quaye: None. S. Chacko: M. Startzell: R.J. Brown: Other; Self; Metreleptin for the study was donated by Amryt Pharma. Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone that signals overall energy sufficiency. In patients with lipodystrophy, treatment recombinant leptin (metreleptin) improved measures of glycemia and decreased expenditure. We hypothesized metreleptin in lipodystrophy would decrease gluconeogenesis (GNG) gluconeogenic substrates through improvements peripheral...

Abstract Leptin is an adipokine that signals energy sufficiency. In rodents, leptin deficiency associated with decreased body temperature and expenditure (EE), which reversed replacement. Leptin’s role in EE humans unclear; however, one study of 10% weight-reduced healthy subjects suggested replacement to pre-weight loss levels restored the decline EE, thyroid hormone, catecholamines weight loss. Patients lipodystrophy (LD) are characterized by adipose tissue can serve as models effects...
