Electrochemical oxidation is an effective technique for treating persistent organic pollutants, which are hardly removed in conventional wastewater treatment plants. Sulfate and chloride salts commonly used present natural influence the electrochemical degradation process. In this study, effect of electrolyte composition on active sulfate species (SO4●⁻ S2O82⁻) formation, benzotriazole degradation-a model compound, chlorinated by-products distribution have been investigated while using a...

We evaluated electrochemical degradation (ECD) and photocatalytic (PCD) technologies for saline water purification, with a focus on rate comparison formation of chlorinated aromatic intermediates using the same non-chlorinated parent compound, 4-ethylphenol (4EP). At 15 mA·cm-2, in absence chloride (0.6 mol·L-1 NaNO3 was used as supporting electrolyte), ECD resulted an apparent zero-order 30 μmol L-1·h-1, whereas rates ∼300 L-1·h-1 ∼3750 were computed low (0.03 mol·L-1) high NaCl...

The impact of chloride (Cl⁻) in heat-activated peroxydisulfate (PDS) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) processes for benzotriazole (BTA) degradation was investigated. Results showed that 0.42 mM BTA could be degraded by PDS PMS under 70 °C presence absence Cl⁻. PMS-mediated rate increased with increasing Cl⁻ concentration up to 1000 mg/L, while a further increase decreased the rate. In contrast, inhibited PDS-mediated at concentrations tested between 100 10,000 mg/L. Radical scavenging experiments...

The reuse of cooling tower blowdown (CTBD) in the itself requires CTBD deionization and a pre-treatment before to remove organic compounds (OCs) that induce membrane fouling. This study assesses potential electrochemical oxidation (EO) with boron-doped diamond (BDD) Ti/RuO2 mixed-metal oxide (MMO) anode for pre-treatment. Also, influence applied current density (j), initial pH, hydrodynamic conditions, supporting electrolyte on process performance was evaluated. Results show COD TOC removal...
