The aim of the study was to evaluate in vitro antibacterial effects glucosinolate hydrolysis products (GHP) against plant pathogenic micro-organisms namely Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Erwinia chrysanthemi, Pseudomonas cichorii, tomato, Xanthomonas campestris and juglandis.Using a disc diffusion assay, seven different doses 10 GHP were tested each bacteria. results showed that isothiocyanates potent antibacterials, whilst other much less efficient. Moreover, dose-dependent, increasing with...

Eugenol (1-allyl-3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzene; CAS No. 97-53-0), a compound extracted from clove oil and marjoram, is widely used as food flavouring substance present in spices such basil, cinnamon nutmeg. It also dentistry an antiseptic analgesic. Structural similarities with the class IIB IARC carcinogen safrole raises questions on its putative carcinogenicity. We evaluated genotoxicity of eugenol V79 cells using chromosomal aberrations (CAs), without rat liver biotransformation (S9)....

With 2 figures and 1 table Abstract We have previously constructed a genetic map of Brassica oleracea L. containing the Pp523 locus that confers downy mildew resistance to adult plants. In this work, 44 SSR markers reference for C genome chromosomes were added map, allowing nine major linkage groups be assigned B. . Locus was located on chromosome C8, determining flower colour mapped C3. comparison with first version new is denser more compact. The available genomic information enriched...

410 accessions of a core collection Brassica oleracea were screened at the cotyledon stage for resistance to downy mildew with isolates P501 (Portugal), P005 and P006 (both UK). Seedlings assigned one six previously described interaction phenotypes. Seed 20 that showed high proportion seedlings in non-sporulating classes four an intermediate sporulating was used produce plants which assessed response as adult field trial Central Portugal. Field evaluation employed five class scale increasing...

The aim of this study was to determine the effects date summer pruning and cane densities on growth fruiting characteristics raspberry ( Rubus idaeus ) plant. Three summer-pruning dates (early, middle, late July) four (8, 16, 24, 32 canes/m row) were imposed greenhouse-grown primocane-fruiting `Autumn Bliss' in 2 consecutive years (1994 1995). A higher light microclimate CO assimilation rate measured within canopy at lowest density. Some compensation rates observed upper leaves high-density...

Abstract Sodium chloride solution applied to the stigma of self-compatible Brassica campestris L. plants induced self seed setting. Maximum per set silique occurred on flowers treated 10 15 min before self-pollination with g·liter –1 NaCl either a micropipette (8.2 seeds/silique) or moistened cotton swab (7.2 seeds/silique). The salt treatments were shown increase pollen adhesion and germination reduce callose formation papillae.

Summary The burden of histoplasmosis has been poorly documented in most the endemic areas for disease, including Brazil. Also, modern non‐culture‐based diagnostic tests are often non‐available these regions. This was a prospective cohort study HIV ‐infected patients with suspected disseminated disease evaluated different tests. Patients were enrolled three referral medical centres Porto Alegre, Among 78 patients, confirmed eight individuals (10.3%) by means classical (culture/histopathology)...

Previous studies have demonstrated reduced virulence in the species that comprise Candida parapsilosis complex. We investigated a cohort of 93 patients with candidemia caused by this Most infections were C. (80.6%), followed orthopsilosis (18.3%) and metapsilosis (1.1%). Renal failure (P < 0.001) chronic liver diseases = 0.019) more frequently encountered group, suggesting an association who had greater state immune suppression comparison sensu stricto.

The spring shoots of `Autumn Bliss' red raspberry ( Rubus idaeus L. var. ; primocane-fruiting type) were cut on 2, 16, 31 July and 15 30 Aug. with the objective delaying fruit harvest into off-season under mild winter climatic conditions. Cutting in August delayed until February April following year, but shoot growth was weak yield low (4.8 2.1 g/cane). cuttings October to January acceptable (63.5, 52.8, 26.5 g/cane for July, respectively). differences cane height total node fruiting count...
