Because of their weak interlayer bonding, van der Waals (vdW) solids are very sensitive to external stimuli such as strain. Experimental studies strain tuning thermal properties in vdW have not yet been reported. Under ∼9% cross-plane compressive created by hydrostatic pressure a diamond anvil cell, we observed an increase conductivity bulk MoS_{2} from 3.5 about 25 W m^{-1} K^{-1}, measured with picosecond transient thermoreflectance technique. First-principles calculations and coherent...

A high electrical and thermal conductivity coupled with low costs make copper (Cu) an enticing alternative to aluminum for the fabrication of interconnects in packaging applications. To tap into benefits ever-reducing size transistors, it is required increase input/output pin count on electronic chips, thus, minimize chip board interconnects. Laser sintering Cu nanoparticle (NP) inks can serve as a promising process developing these micron sized, 3D interconnect structures. However, exact...

Recent theories and experiments have suggested hydrodynamic phonon transport features in graphite at unusually high temperatures. Here, we report a picosecond pump-probe thermal reflectance measurement of heat-pulse propagation graphite. The results reveal transient lattice cooling near the adiabatic center $15\text{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$-diameter ring-shape pump beam temperatures between 80 120 K. While such has not been reported recent diffraction measurements second...

A novel method to measure cooling rates during solidification in Directed Energy Deposition (DED) using on-axis photodiode-based Planck thermometry (PDPT) was developed. The proposed can monitor the average in-situ melt pool temperature at a 100 kHz acquisition rate. This is much faster than other thermal imaging methods, such as an IR (50∼200 Hz) or camera (25∼100 Hz), due use of photodiode single-pixel measurements. PDPT measures by detecting two visible wavelengths from coaxial, top-down...

Utilizing metal nanoparticles (NPs) in Additive Manufacturing (AM) enables fabricating parts with sub-micrometer resolution. The thermal properties of NPs are drastically different from their bulk and micron-size counterparts due to nanoscale transport effects, e.g. ballistic phonon/electron instead diffusive described by Fourier's Law. Rough estimation NPs' values will inevitably cause large errors for AM applications, because evolve along the sintering process. In this study, 100 nm Cu...
