Abstract Urban ecosystems represent heterogeneous environments with mosaics of natural, semi-natural and man-made habitats, plenty vascular plants including native alien species. In-depth biodiversity research in urban areas might be time- personnel-consuming. Therefore, we selected six habitat types within 30 towns Slovakia (Central Europe) to determine whether any habitats could serve as a ‘surrogate habitat’ for the total, Red List plant richness towns. We found 1054 taxa overall;...
Abstract Dry grasslands are endangered by succession because of changes in management, soil conditions and abandonment. The successional vegetation composition after 46 years abandonment were subject the study. analyses designed to minimize errors that could be caused application historical data. With help numerical classification, internal variation within associations was evaluated. Using computer modeling GIS, suitable management model for dry defined. following impact observed: cover...
Monitoring the occurrence of new alien species among native flora is first prerequisite for preventing their later invasive spread.During last decade, we recorded data regarding 25 taxa to Slovakia including 21 casual and 4 locally naturalised species, with ornamental plants predominating significantly. The Cenchrus flaccidus, Cotoneaster zabelii, Doronicum pardalianches Panicum virgatum are able spread habitats thus represent greatest risk plant in Slovakia.
The cover of introduced tree species in Europe has recently increased, due to several factors. Attempts understand the impact non-native edificator trees on environmental conditions and diversity undergrowth have so far been limited a few studies. In this paper, we analyse effect one most commonly planted species–black pine (Pinus nigra J. F. Arnold) Carpathian-Pannonian region, north border its native occurrence. objectives our study were determine following: (i) How does black pine, as...
Abstract Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica (Asteraceae) is an endangered narrow endemic taxon recently recorded from nine sites in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. We provide first consistent information on its reproductive biology – mating system, seed output, germination, seedling emergence survival. Based results isolation, hybridization emasculation experiments different subspecies, T. s.l. should be treated as allogamous without apomictic reproduction. Five populations of l. were...
Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica is an endemic endangered taxon of European importance. Within the nine recently known populations it occurs in very specific site conditions ecotone habitats. In our contribution, we try to quantify its realized niche with regard measured components biotic and abiotic environment. The main aim was assess importance spatial environmental variation on occurrence performance relate obtained ecological information data abundance demography. Possible reasons...
Abstract Replacing native forests by alien tree plantations can lead to changes in the species composition of understory. However, differences understory spectrum also be a part natural variability forest stands. We have tested suitability twin plots method for an evaluation impact trees on This research was conducted alluvial plain (SW Slovakia) that originally covered hardwood floodplain forest. The study based 7 black locust ( Robinia pseudoacacia ) and plots, with maximum distance 100...
Abstract The research conducted here presents a syntaxonomical revision of the montane mesophilous meadows Polygono bistortae-Trisetion flavescentis alliance in central Europe – Slovak part western and eastern Carpathians. These typical semi-natural grasslands occur mainly as small islands over calcareous bedrocks. Associations this have tight relationships to Arrhenatherion, Mesobromion Nardo-Agrostion alliances. Formal definitions based on combination species groups were used regarding...
Plant species diversity of black alder-dominated forests was studied in three biogeographical regions (Alpine, Continental and Pannonian) Central Europe. They were represented by the Polish Plain (Continental), High Western Carpathians Matricum (Alpine) Pannonian lowland (Pannonian). We analysed 35 plots per region order to identify: i) local alpha (α) defined as counted number plant taxa occurring a single sampling plot, ii) amongst-site beta (β) diversity, iii) regional (γ) total richness...
The phytosociological affiliation of Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica, species European importance, was studied in relation to two closely related the genus which have overlapping distribution within Western Carpathian Mts: T. intergrifolia and crispa. main aim compare plant communities inhabited by three taxa, assess major environmental gradients responsible for variation their estimate ecological indicator values moravica. moravica recorded nine localities Slovakia Czech Republic...
Zuccarini P., Ciurli A., Alpi Hegedusova K.: Hydraulic and chemical mechanisms in the response of Pinus pinaster A i t. to conditions water stress. Ekologia (Bratislava), Vol. 30, No. 4, p. , 2011. The increase temperatures at a global scale constitutes threaten, among others, for forest ecosystems, imposes deeper comprehension plant behaviour towards drought stress, order better plan sustainable management resources. Young plants Ait. were exposed prolonged during which their xylem ABA...
Vegetation of deciduous forests in the Štiavnické vrchy Mts (Central Slovakia) was studied using standard Zürich-Montpellier approach. The numerical classification and ordination technique were applied to determine main forest vegetation types find responsible environmental drivers related their distribution patterns, respectively. data set including 198 relevés collected by authors 1997-2009 185 excerpted from literature used analysis. Numerical resulted delimitation fourteen representing...
Abstract The diversity of vascular plants in temperate floodplain forests varies between biogeographical regions Europe. Our study aims to identify the key environmental drivers plant species richness dominated by black alder ( Alnus glutinosa ) Central Europe with four regions: Pannonian lowland, Matricum as southern part Western Carpathians, High Carpathians and Polish Plain. We analysed quantified 15 characteristics (soil, climatic landscape characteristics) 140 vegetation plots (35 per...
