Se describe e ilustra Echeveria purhepecha (Crassulaceae) como especie nueva para la ciencia. Por sus características morfológicas, se ubica en serie Retusae E. Walther. Dentro del grupo, presenta mayor similitud con fulgens Lem., especialmente var. obtusifolia (Rose) Kimnach, de que difiere por las hojas más cortas, longitud inflorescencia menor, menor número flores cincino, pedicelo y segmento cáliz largos, corola rojo escarlata, segmentos oblongo-lanceolados.

Eryngium es uno de los géneros más extensos y con mayores dificultades taxonómicas entre las Apiaceae. El grupo incluye 230 a 250 especies distribuidas en regiones templadas tropicales del planeta. Para México se han registrado alrededor 60 especies, 21 ellas existen el estado Michoacán. Éstas distribuyen cinco tipos vegetación, pero principalmente lo hacen pastizal, bosques pino-encino coníferas. Se una clave para la determinación citadas.
